Destiny Clans: Purpose?

Traditionally in MMOs, you join a clan or guild to share resources and strategies plus show who your friendlies are. As there is not clan vault or player trading of any kind along with there looking to be no conquering of virtual territory, what is the basic purpose behinds clans in Destiny? You don't need a clan to squad up and go on raids as you can just use your gaming network's friends list and and PVP is so simple it doesn't care what clan you're in. I am not talking trash or trying to start an argument; I am just trying to get some info.

Allow me to give you a proper answer: Clans/alliances allow likeminded Guardians to unite under a common banner in unified pursuit of their beliefs. Though that may or may not be something tangible in game, it is an undeniable force that can drive camaraderie, teamwork, and friendship to fuel a thriving community. It also allows those individuals to combine forces in order to conquer overwhelming odds. As far as whether or not any relevant 'overwhelming odds' exist in Destiny, we have yet to see. If nothing else, there's always the Raiding Party trophy/achievement (which requires a clan). It could be a sign of other clan related activities that have yet to come. -4th Seraph: Leader of the Ghost Angels

    • I started a clan (Lords of Sol Invictus) to bring all my friends in under a single name for destiny. We ended up making a club on Xbox for it as well for easy communication on raids as well as showing off our achievements. Now we bring in new people and have competitions between each other for cash prizes. It's evolved beyond the pointlessness for us. We sorta found a purpose for it ourselves.

Well we started out as a clan on another game (RIP Trailer Park Boyz ~sniffles~) and the main ppl from that clan became pretty damn close. We wanted to old name to die with the other game so we named it House of Lotus. Basically for us a clan is about a group of people having fun and playing hard. We don't care if your a good or bad player, just if you have fun (although there are A LOT of try hards with us) but we have some casuals too. I personally love the concept of the clan because I know with out a shadow of doubt, my homies have my back and I will relentlessly have theres. I do understand your point and I have friends also who plan on not going into a clan. And that's cool whatever floats your boat <3

    • For people like me whose friends are still on the previous gen consoles, and have not and/or dont plan on getting destiny, clans are a good way to find reliable, active players to party up with for strikes, raids, etc.

Although I anticipate many of my friends to buy and play Destiny, I joined a clan (Astral) to expand the number of people that will possibly be on at the same time as I am. Also, Raids are for 6 people, and being in the clan allows for people to plan times and days better, especially having a forum/website. The best case scenerio is that my PSN friends join the same clan that I am in. Since I am in a clan, they can click on profile and see what clan I'm in and follow link to clan.

    • For ours it is simply expanding your "friends list" to include guys in your timezone to raid and work in fireteams,, apparently there are maybe two achievements linked to completing missions with a certain number of clanmates,, other than that its meeting new people who are interested in the same game and share in the adventure
