So I've been reading a whole lot of articles about why not having matchmaking for raids is a bad thing and I just can't agree, here's why.
Bungie has stated they don't want this to be content people can just throw themselves at over and over again until some form of success slowly begins to occur (put that in my own words though, not Bungies). They want this to be content that takes effort to organize, if you can organize a team of people to play at the same time you gain a CHANCE at having the organization it'll take to beat this content.
This content is not for every player, I'm sorry everyone feels entitled to ever bit of content that comes with a game but that's not how it works in reality, sorry. Yes you paid for the game, and they are giving you access to the content, the same level of access they are giving EVERYONE else. Whether or not you as a player have the time or patience to access that content the way they set it up is on you.
If everyone where able to access this content whenever they want the next series of complaints you'd hear flooding from everywhere is likely how the content is too hard, and how can they expect a group of 6 strangers to work together at such a high level of play and beat this content.
Also, Bungie has provided us tools to group together and find players for this content. If you plan to raid then you clearly have an internet connection, hell it's required for the game last I checked. So don't tell me you can't hop on the internet for a few minutes and post on the forums, join a group / clan or something to find the players you need to access this content.
Don't be lazy and expect the world to be given to you, if Bungie adopted this lazy attitude of self entitlement they wouldn't be making the great games they do, and they'd be giving us trash like many other developers do, but they aren't. So you can't be either, and if you are, you don't deserve to access the content, it's not meant for you, no matter how that makes you feel on the inside, it's true, deal with it.
That is all. Thanks for the great game Bungie, I really hope you don't back down to all the heat your getting about this. Just think how much heat the Demon's Souls / Dark Souls series got for being so hard and now it's a cult classic. You already have the fan base, the people complaining over this will still buy the game, and they aren't the people that'll be around months, years from now anyways, so don't make the game about them. Do what you knows best, I'm sure you will.

The benefit to not having matchmaking is that you'll be forced to build friendships or play with existing friends. It's their way of re-creating the fun of Halo (the original) where you had to go to people's houses that you knew to make memories together. Playing with people you don't know just isn't as fun. Also, if you always play with newbies, you won't make any progress. If you play with your friends always, they'll get better and you'll beat the content and make memories with the people you love.

Stick to your guns Bungie! No one will become legend if you just hand them everything on a silver platter!

Edited by sergeantawesome: 8/5/2014 6:34:47 PMFirst, Bungie won't back down, so this thread is pointless. Second, I feel your arguments are biased because of your lifestyle, and are ignorant to others. Third, it was recently announced, not something that has been known for a long time, known after people invested a significant amount of time into the alpha and betas, and dropped $60-$150 for a copy. People have the right to be pissed, but they still have a choice to keep their copy or cancel their pre-order.

I think raid matchmaking will happen eventually, but never for the highest tier. Once more raids come out, the lower ones will be treated more like strikes. Seems logical to me. Keep the newest and highest level raids out of the queue and put the lower ones in.

Edited by DeclinedMercy: 8/5/2014 7:17:53 PMFirst, I'd like to mention that I am completely against matchmaking of any form in the Raids. That said, if matchmaking were to occur, instead of making it with individuals it could be with 3 people Fireteams. That way, instead of matching 6 individuals of unknown caliber, it'd be matching 2 Fireteams. That would be a sort of compromise and while I don't like the idea of matchmaking I guess I could live with that. If you don't like the Fireteam you're matched with, you could leave and redo the matchmaking. There would still be some level of familiarity in the teams. I'd only be okay with this in (relatively) low level raids, but I'd prefer no matchmaking at all.

To be honest I am looking forward to this system of how the raid is going to work. It will be a nice challenge and a good way to meet new people and make new friends.
-
I agree. Not because I want to keep the unwashed masses from raiding, but because I want Bungie to preserve the integrity of the raid experience they have described to us. It sounds awesome and should not be diluted.

You know what keep your raids. What randoms matchmakers really want is a survival mode. A Horde mode. A timed survival mode that has the same end gear armor like a Raid. Just place it behind and endless wave of ever growing powerful enemies and a third hour bench mark to get to and random matchmaking would be pretty happy and challenging.

Edited by Malismo: 8/5/2014 8:16:33 PMFirstly, matchmaking and nerfing are not causaly connected. Saying the first leads to the second is like saying tomorrow it will rain, because you just farted. No proof, no truth. Secondly, I will occasionally use matchmaking, if it is implemented. At other times I will raid with a premade group of friends. One doesn't exclude/interfere with the other and both have their merits and problems both pre-game as well as in-game. Lastly, stop projecting your own fears onto Destiny. Whatever happened in whatever other game, happened in that other game. We will see if it will happen here, but until it does saying it will is pure speculation, don't pose it as the truth. Edit: "you" and "your" apply to all who feel addressed.

You can keep your raids... just don't make it so the only way to get exotics is through raids. Not all of us can find 5 people to play with. (And no, joining a guild or finding 5 friends is going to cut it for every individual who buys this game)

No Matchmaking No Lobby WTF is this shit ?

You... I like you

Na change it.

Edited by Skyknight11: 8/5/2014 9:35:08 PMThe use of my time is really not on me since I am In the military and when I get home I have a newborn to help take care of with my wife. BUT on another note I really hope they don't add matchmaking. With the 2 hours I have during the evening after I get home and get my daughter asleep I managed to find 5 people to play with and I only know 1 IRL. So I agree with your post. And yes Bungie, thank you for a amazing game so far

I'm leader of the Iron Raider Intergalactic Elite (IRIE) Guard we are a Raid and Iron Banner clan, we try to find the strongest weapons and armor in destiny. 17+ with a mic come check us out.

Cheers to that. Might as well just make them harder Bungie.

Loved your post man. I hate people who think everything in a game is entitled to them. Its Bungies game. They wanna add raids, theyll add raids. No matchmaking? Their choice. People need to realize Raids are meant for the skilled and dedicated. And seriously? They have an entire game to play but one little raid.... People these days...we need more like you in the world.
-
To join clans and find 5 people in forums sound more a chore then actual fun!
-
I'm fine with it not having matchmaking but can we please add a DECENT form of global communication outside of chatting within your own fire team? Seriously wtf

Edited by MstrDstryr: 8/6/2014 1:40:07 AMI agree with OP, well said. 10 year plan? If someone wants to play and beat the raids, they will.
-
Yes!! Agree 100%

Holy shizkeys that was the most rational thing I've ever heard in this forum period.

A lot of people on here have a strange perspective on Bungie....Bungie will not bend, they will not bow to the demands of the people to put MM into the game, but if they do decide to put MM into the game it is a fact they will eventually nerf the content, they wont have the backbone to say no to the masses. I like the idea of MM. I am kind of a loner when it comes to gaming online. I either like to play FPS on a splitscreen or by myself, not with people I have never met. I can understand the fear of them nerfing the content....but this is a shared world shooter, not a MMO. It is on a console, not on the PC, we have no idea if Bungie will be actively buffing or nerfing the game content when it is released. My bet is that they would not change the difficulty. Bungie is a company that has a lot of self confidence, a company that knows fans will love their game even if it is really really ridiculously hard. They want as many people as possible to enjoy their content, but this is a company that knows certain parts of a game will be hard, that a lot of people will be complaining about how hard it is to complete, and they will not change it for those who complain. Just my feelings on Bungie as a company in general. If they want it to be hard, if they want to make it next to impossible, they will do it, and they will not change their minds.....or they will wait until the second Destiny.

Agreed!

Edited by Velka's Crow: 8/6/2014 2:06:17 AMFinally someone who gets it. I think it's ironic that people are saying that everyone who wants raids to not have a match making feature are selfish. The game has something for everyone, raids are the only thing tailored to the hardcore crowd and people want to ruin the one thing we have by adding a match making system to it. The rest of the game is tailored to casual/competitive players, so who's being selfish here? For the people that still can't understand that concept it'd be the same as PvP players getting Bungie to make all explore and mission areas an open battlefield like DayZ because they feel they don't have enough maps to play on. I can understand that people want better in game communication and I feel like a proximity chat would be a good option, if someone is being annoying you mute them end of story, but to complain about it being too hard to put together a raiding team without one? Come on people, stop being so pathetically lazy. You have BNet and XBL/PSN at your disposal, two completely viable and easy to use systems. Too hard to find people who would want to raid? Strikes are basically the little brothers of raids, play a few missions, find solid players, and shoot them a message inquiring about whether or not they'd want to raid with you. Is that really so -blam!-ing hard or are you guys just that -blam!-ing lazy?
