Yes i'm so glad i'm not the only one that thought of this. Here are 4 of my idea's about Emotes. Feel free to ad any or new idea's.
Honestly someone needs to make a poll on Emotes in Destiny so someone at Bungie will notice.
1. HAVING MORE THAN 4 EMOTES
During my time playing Destiny's Beta I never thought I would find myself using Emotes like I did.
The day of teammate's meleeing you, shooting you, throwing grenade's at you, crouching up and down to get your attention are over now that we have Emotes. I found that people were even nicer if you can believe that. But communication felt like it was limited with only 4 options of Emotes. I think just like many other people that having 8 Emotes feels about right. Any number more I think would be too much.
2. BEST EMOTE BUTTON FORMAT FOR CONTROLLERS
Again i'm glad i'm not the only one that thought of this. I think that the best button layout for having 8 Emotes
is the ''TAP'' DOUBLE TAP''
This seems like the more efficient choice rather than having Wheels, Pop up Menu's, Columns, Diagonal directions on D-pad, or Button Mashing Combo's. These feel too fidelity and time consuming. While having two Emotes for each direction on the D-pad UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, with the ''TAP'' ''DOUBLE TAP'' would be quick and easy with less fumbling.
EXAMPLE
''TAP'' UP on D-pad for 'Wave' Emote
''DOUBLE TAP'' UP on D-pad for 'Salute' Emote
3. CHOOSING AND ASSIGNING EMOTES
I think there should be at least 40 different types of Emotes.
20 MALE Guardian EMOTES and 20 FEMALE Guardian Emotes.
This should be enough so that everyone would feel that there character would be unique and stand out from the crowd. You start the game with the standard 4 Emotes and as you rank up you unlock new Emotes and new SLOTS for more Emotes.
Each direction UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, on the D-pad will have 2 SLOTS for 8 different Emotes. You will be able to pick and choose which Emote and assign it to whatever Slot suits you. These Slots can be accessed from your character's menu in game. You choose each Emote for each 2 SLOT's for that direction.
''TAP'' to activate SLOT 1 Emote
''DOUBLE TAP'' to activate SLOT 2 Emote
(same)EXAMPLE
''TAP'' RIGHT on D-pad=(SLOT 1) for 'Dance' Emote
''DOUBLE TAP'' RIGHT on D-pad=(SLOT 2) for 'Fist Pump' Emote
4. EMOTES HAVING PURPOSE AND INTERACTIONS
I agree with everyone that some Emotes should have a purpose. Like being able to create Visual Waypoint Markers, Tag Items and Enemies, Points of interest, Invite to Fireteam, Invite to Chat. There should also be a short Audio commands like Attack, Defend, Regroup, Flank etc. Would definitely make communicating easier and fun.
I would also like to see people being able to use Emotes to interact with each other like High fiving, Fist Bumping, Chest Bumping, Hugging, Slapping, Pushing, Dancing etc. You should also be able to use Emotes to interact with your GHOST and other NPC's in game.
I noticed that some of things in the E3's demo of Destiny that they left out and were not in the BETA. Like your character was able to lower there gun. A little detail like that but I wish it stayed in. So if we hope, wish, ask and with in good reason and easy to do that Bungie will listen to us and make it so.
Cheers for reading my long rant about Emotes. feel free to ad anything new or something better than what I could think of. Bungie has made an absolutely epic game and I cant wait for September. see you star side.

Right d pad, emotion based emotes. Tap, wave. Hold, brings up four more options on a wheel activated by an additional tap of up, left, right, or down (dance, cocky shrug, sophisticated pose, point and laugh, etc) Up d pad, tactical based emotes. Tap for a "hold position" raised fist like on the sparrow. Hold to bring up wheel and four additional emotes Left d pad, posture emotes. Tap to crouch or kneel, hold for options such as prone, sit, dance, etc Down on d pad could be a form of matchmaking assistance. Tap for looking for strike team. Hold for raid normal, raid hard, crucible, nightfall, etc. Just my suggestions and examples, and you could even branch further off the wheel with an additional long press of a direction after the first.

Double tap is annoying because it is harder to remember. In this system you have more emotes but only have to remember 4 things.

I can understand 8 is a lot. Having that many to remember can indeed be annoying to get use to. As I said above in my comment. That you start the game just like the Beta. You start and have only 4 and as you progress through the game and when you rank up you unlock new Emotes and SLOTS for the option to have more. 8 being the limit you can have. The main thing is customization. You have the option to pick, choose, and assign any Emote you want and how many you want. If you unlock all 8 SLOTS you can choose to stick with 4 or have as many as 6 or even if you want just the 2 completely your decision. As for the ''TAP'' ''DOUBLE TAP'' maybe I can explain a little better. ''TAP'' would be for your main 4 Emotes. ''DOUBLE TAP'' would be for your secondary 4 (option 5,6,7,8) Emotes. Again if this seems too complicated, you can still have the choice to just have the 4 and the ''TAP'' button layout. If you don't want to ''DOUBLE TAP'' you don't have to. When I played the Beta I have to admit that yea It did take me a while but (and this is just me) I got use to it really quickly and by the end I wanted an option for more. I hope I was able to explain my idea a bit better and that I don't annoy you with the long response. Cheers for reading and Thanks for the feed back and feel free to ad something I missed or something that could be improved.

Edited by Strong Dawn: 7/31/2014 7:26:07 AMReading it didn't come off as a rant at all. I like how you have suggested that double tapping that d-pad direction gives an action that is similar or more advanced to the current one. I would also like race specific sitting animations. Dancing and waving seems to give race specific gestures. Due to the concept art of the Exo (sitting up against the wall), I think the Exo should keep the current sit position as it looks very similar, but we should have new ones for the Human and Warlock (e.g. And this is just a suggestion, the Warlock could sit cross-legged, the human could kinda slouch with one knee up and one knee down).

Edited by Raw Geansai: 8/1/2014 2:11:50 AMCheers. I really like your idea as well, different Races would stand out a lot more if they had there own styled Emotes. Everyone can tell each Guardian apart just by looking at there armour. Hunter,Warlock,Titan. You can only tell if people are different Race's by being at the TOWER seeing them with there helmet off. Your idea would be a great way to easily tell each Guardian apart and which Race they are on the battle field based on there styled Emotes.

I really hope we can find emotes while exploring and killing enemies. We should be able to equip them... Slap instead of dance?

If both players have a hug action they could hug..........................................................makes sense
