My Opinion on Proximity Chat

Don't allow it in the usual way. I personally do not like listening to people drink, eat, shout, play music, swear, get told off by their mum, shout, be generally annoying, or insult me. If proximity chat is brought in can you allow us to configure it so we can mute everyone that isn't in our friendlist or fireteam. Then add an option so that if I do have it muted I can hold down a button to unmute so I can listen and an icon appears above my head to show I can now hear them. If the person is the annoying we can block them as usual. Won't be a good time having to go through the motions of muting people who fail to be civil every time. I think Bungie got it right to begin with, and if they introduce proximity chat its going to lead to the usual obnoxious and rude behaviour we see from a small minority of players.

  • I believe Bungie got it right from the beginning. I have no interest listening to squeakers insulting my mom, screaming, shouting, playing music, etc.... Fireteam chat with friends, silent guardian otherwise.... suits me just fine... But this is -of course- my subjective opinion...

  • A system that monitors how many people mute a person though would be able to combat that though, so if like 10 people mute him in a minute he must be being obnoxious and it just globally mutes him for everyone

    • Interesting thought...what if proximity chat was only enabeled for your friends with the option to add non friend players if you wanted to.

      • Keyboard chat or more non-verbal communication would be nice. Mini-chatrooms within the tower, for example.

        • I absolutely do not want proximity chat. I don't need to hear complete strangers saying all kinds of dumb shit. I'm personally not very into the immersion and role play kind of thing, I just like to play the game. Hearing a bunch of people who take a game way too seriously is a huge turn off for the social aspects for me and will cause me to mute them all or just turn the proximity chat off. I'd appreciate this not being in the game, or at least tailoring it to not ruin the experience for people like me.
