That was actually a thing, and it sounded sweet. The voices had reverb of the room and everything. Try a stereo headset next time

Not only is he talking positional audio, which was a thing he is talking about the thing that already has multiple threads, local comms or proximity chat. So yeah.

Sorry I assumed it wasn't there because I've never heard of a console game using it before. I mean it's not even supported by the hardware that comes with the consoles so why would it. And how would I even know if chat isn't working properly in the first place? I searched for threads mentioning positional chat audio before making this and nothing came up.

You are talking about two things positional and proximity. There are threads for proximity, but in your fireteam the voices change depending on where you are compared to the rest of your fireteam.
