I’ve played some RPG’s in my time as a gamer and after experiencing the Beta I’d like to make a small but dangerous suggestion. Add a permadeath option. I’ve felt permadeath / hardcore mode create a powerful immersive experience. I’v jumped for joy beating a hard boss, I’ve screamed my lounges empty on near death close calls and I’v cried real tears after experiencing a virtual death. There is a noticeable shift in decision making when every choice, every move, every bullet can make the difference between life and death.
Probably not something you’d want to make available for the player at the very start of the game when they are making their first character. Possibly an unlock at lv 10.
The gaming landscape has shifted over the last decade and a half. Twitch, YouTube, Bungie.net and other online tools allow players to share their virtual experiences. There has never been a better time to take advantage of the accessibility these technologies and allow a small but enthusiastic number of players rick it all… and maybe, truly become legends.

I completely agree that it should be an option for people who want it, but I wouldn't use it, I'm too scared of losing my character
-
Although I would never be hardcore enough to be able to have any measure of success at perma-death Destiny, I 10/10 would watch anyone with the guts and glory that would.
-
Personally I disagree, but as an option for hardcore players I don't mind

Nothing's stopping you from doing this already.

I would like to see some penalisation to dieing, but not a permadeath. I was thinking more along lines of skill progression penalties, like you use to get in some RPGs where exp was knocked off you along with resources. In this case all your skill advancements that aren't locked in and upgraded yet.

With so may smart game designers working at bungie it wouldn't surprise me if this had already been discussed. Other games have tried it including some real popular ones like Day Z. If people want Bungie to support #permadeath they have to ask for it. let bungie know its something you want to see.

How about you just delete your character on your own.

Isn't this easy to self-implement? You know, lose a character, delete and start over?
