I believe making the open world feel more "Open" it needs a few things. Add whatever you believe it needs too.
1. Wildlife:
I saw this moments ago and it got me thinking that it would make the world feel more alive.
2. Camps and/or caravans:
Adding machines like the ones from the tower to distribute missions and possibly even make minor trades of some sort possible.
3. Weather:
Changing weather would make the world seem more real and offer a new feel to the combat in roam making it feel more realistic in a way. And preferably regionally appropriate weather.
Edit: the wildlife would not be what we have today but twisted creatures from the hive that look like animals roaming the planets and moons that they inhabit.
And the camps or caravans could have guardians protecting the machines.
Apparently people take these posts as demands for extreme content changes so I'll say this. These are only my ideas for what could be added in the future at some point not for what needs to be done by release.
Please no comments stating that anyone has a bad idea, if you're not being positive you're being a hinderance.

I agree. It gets annoying to have to go back to the tower anytime I need to sell stuff or buy a new gun
-
Nice idea!
-
I can definitely see that this would add value, not sure if it would all fit in so to speak, but I respect what you are putting out there.
-
the camps or caravans i definitely agree with, it would be nice to be able to grab bounties or be able to pick up missions from one place when your on a planet.
-
Totally agree weather & camps would be so great! I was thinking that only having the one vendor was a bit boring too. I want to explore and find some merchant from beyond the wall selling scavenged at mementos from our alien oppressors etc.

The wildlife is a good idea, but they way they showed the Fallen and Hive is as hostile mobs that want everything for themselves, and that will do anything to take over Earth. If they are hostile enough to fight Fallen vs Hive for land I am sure they would be hostile enough to attack wildlife. BUT what if they could tame wild animals? Like some of the Fallens Vandals and the Hives Acolytes can have minor, deformed infected wildlife like wolves or some sort of hostile wildlife animal, then the "big bad bosses" can sometimes have huge wildlife likes bears and stuff!

Edited by Ghost: 7/28/2014 8:14:35 AMWell, maybe the darkness could have killed off all or most wildlife? Except those crows when you first start for some reason. Edit+ I'm not sure how the hive works or even exactly what it is, maybe a virus/infection type thing, in which case hive animal could be possible, but they don't really seem the farming type...

1. Ok, but not entirely essential. Would make the world seem more alive, but I think wildlife would serve as more of a distraction than an asset. Who's to say there isn't wildlife in the final code, anyway? Bungie would be silly to show us their entire hand in the beta. 2. I like this idea a lot. Being able to buy emergency ammo, especially for the heavy weapons, is a good idea. But there'd have to be some kind of penalty, like everything being more expensive seeing as the merchants are risking their lives being out there constantly. Pointless for making room in your inventory though, as the "dismantle" option is there for clearing, unless you want to store something cool, in which case a Vault function of some kind would be welcome. 3. Yes. Very yes. Weather would be great, but as I said before, it may already be a prevalent feature in the full release, but was sidelined for the beta for possibly a feasible download size or superfluous reasoning?

I've been reading most I the comments, all are good but some are a little... Crazy. I think most people don't realize that there is a limit to all of this. If we could explore a whole world just think how long that would take to load. Not only that but I honestly don't think the system could handle that, that would be something like a PC thing. Just really think about it and think how much chaos that would be. We don't want GTA Online all over again...

When I first heard about the "free roam" in destiny I was thinking big, like you could be able to explore the whole planet big, you know with big forests, huge mountains, enormous cave systems, and a ton of open spaces, where anything is possible. I already think of destiny as an incredible game, but if free roam was a little "FREE ROAM" and you could find like caves and mountains, and ruined cities, with enemies lurking around every corner of course. Destiny has SO much potential, it really does, and I know bungie is doing there best to bring us an awesome game. Thanks Bungie

Yes to all. Also need more space, like a lot more or else it will be like me, Warlock, Sparrow, Forgotten Shores, coastline, back and forth and then, back and forth some more...

I agree with 1 and 3
-
I agree on the wildlife and weather points, the world would seem much more engaging if you had random encounters with them. Some others made comments like the flying jumps could have something added to them to make them more effective. there was multiple times where I would make a jump but since I had no way of controlling how high I went I my titan would end up French kissing an overhead beam while I had enemy ammo shoved up my exhaust pipe and I had no choice but to take it all in.

1 & 2= no 3 = yes

Haven't seen an open world hidden walls everywhere
-
Some others have said it also but the enemies really needs to have a purpose for being there when your not fighting them. Like actually patroling or scavenging. Something so you dont feel like they are just waiting for you to kill them (even though that's the truth). They have their own cultutres so have some of it on display at least. Its more fun if I feel like I just busted up a scavenging party then a herd of grazing cattle.

Edited by schotman11: 7/28/2014 3:59:09 AMGround wildlife kinda wouldn't be realistic I mean did you see that massive line of cars with thousands of dead people in it? Whatever the collapse was could've killed ground animals or the fallen and hive already killed them I mean there are a ton of reasons why animals aren't on the ground maybe even the fact that the rest of the world was over taken by nature and the walls you are inside could be keeping them out... Just a couple of my thoughts on wildlife...

Bumps!
-
Enemys need a some personality.
-
I really love your second and third ideas!!!
-
Take out the blaming invisible walls and all those other restrictions!
-
1: Not a good idea. The reason being is that it's just more variables that have to be taken into account and it'll slow things down. 2 and 3: I'd like these things.
-
I agree; the entire map just felt like levels connected to each other.
-
I saw birds flying in the sky... I shot them... They didn't die... They kept doing circle laps in the sky... Life..
-
please fix the bug that doesnt let you aim sight when you get out of the sparrow.... it's a real drag! it gets stuck on hip fire.
