It's hard to find people you want to play with. Clans/ groups serve to narrow down the field into like-minded individuals. I have made a few threads for my group OTK- my most beloved group on this site- and for that in particular it's about finding like-minded people that make the most out of their gaming experience. It's a wonderful thing which is why I am so passionate about it.

To be a part of something bigger than yourself. Gangs, associations, groups, clubs - the list goes on and on - most of these things have a running theme: a shared vision and a unified organization to see said vision accomplished. JTS

So this is why the website was in maintenance? Great addition.

We are one from many.

The primary benefits of being in a clan are having access to tight-knit community. Benefits include allowing players to stage get togethers easier, host contests or tournaments, find players, and generally just make friends. It's like a support system that can also have fun events.

So I can be a cool 1337 MLG tryhard like the rest of the 12 year olds.

My gaming time is limited. I love knowing they is a great group of quality friends playing that I can count on ever time I get on.

It's a great way to exert control over your gaming experience. Certainly you can do that by deciding who you are friends with online, I just view joining a clan as a way to sharpen that to a razor's edge. Maybe you can only game during a certain time or on a certain day. Joining a group may allow you to facilitate games at those particular times regularly, rather than just hoping people will be around. Maybe you have a very specific idea of the types of personalities that mesh well with you when gaming. A group is a good way to find like-minded individuals without having to sift for gold in the rivers of online gaming. If you're competitive, you can find like-minded gamers. If you're casual, you can find like-minded gamers. If you have particular gaming quirks (you prefer building stuff in-game or hiding in maps or you just really like driving a vehicle) you can find a group that suits those ideals, when even your closest friends might not enjoy those same things. And yeah, it's an easy way to make some new friends. Shared experience is the easiest way to build a new friendship, whatever the activity might be. So if you're new (or not) to gaming or new to a specific console landscape, finding a clan of people with a philosophy you endorse can make your gaming time a lot more fun.

I find that clan's offer gamers with like perspectives on how to play a game in a way that is enjoyable. When I can find a group of players for a game who I can have a good time with, then that's a good clan. Its also a clan worth making, which is what I'm trying to do.

Clans are important for when you need backup. You then know the people you trust have your back.

Edited by Erkyo: 6/25/2014 12:04:56 AMMeeting new people. Active clans always have people playing a game so you don't have to play with yourself...err I mean by yourself. Custom games!

Because I'm in it.

It depends on the game. Most clan implementations are pretty worthless and serve as nothing other than a second friends list.
-
I don't want a clan. I want to meet new people in Destiny. I want to meet new guardians in the field and forge friendships with guns and fists. Plz add proximity chat Bungie.

I'm 32, a working professional, married with a family and a mortgage. Why do I participate in a clan? To have fun! Organizing around a group of like minded gamers is only going to elevate your experience with the game. I've had great times winning, and even better times losing. I'm average at best with my KDR, but throw me in with like minded players and I learn, I get better, I have fun. At the very root of us all we game to have fun, that's why we come back time after time and pick up that controller. I've made friendships that have paid dividends in the real world all around the world. Why should you join a clan? To have the best time you can within Destiny and take that experience beyond into other games and make lasting friendships around the globe.
