level cap and planet questions.

If the level cap is 20, how do they intend to make this a relative game for the next ten years? Do you think they would increase the cap with later dlc? Do you think we should get access to other planets later, or even just new solar systems?

  • I just want to put my two cents worth in here. There has been no confirmed level cap as of yet. All that level 20 stuff you all keep mentioning, the game was in alpha. It may change or each planet may have a certain level that you can get to if you play through the missions. Such as star wars the old republic. I've also seen some threads that after level twenty you start collecting "light" which can raise your level over 20. Guess all we really have is wild speculation for now.

Sup :) So judging from the things we found in alpha, and what we know about the level cap, is that the hardcap seems to be in lv20, you can't go higher with xp. But, after you reach that lv20, you get access to higher level gear which have a status effect called "Light". This light will push your level up, beyond level 20 :) It's unclear at the moment how this will exactly work since Bungie is very hushhush about this. So we dont know if Light +2 increases your level with 2 straight up, or is it more like you have to get like 10 light points to get one level increase. I guess we'll see it in the retail in action :) And we dont know how high these light stats can get us. Then there is another thing after lv20, called Mote of Light, it's a endgame currency which you can use atleast on an npc called Voice of the Traveller. In alpha he sold epic class based items (cloaks, hipcloths, armbands) and you could buy them with these Mote of Lights, of course in alpha lv cap was 8 so we could in no way buy these items :)

        • I don't think their only making one game to last for 10 years. Graphics would look outdated by year 4 since this is a console game. I'm thinking their will be a game released every 3 years or so. Meaning Destiny will have 2 additional sequels.

          • What indication? Because of the gear in the Tower? That is an early hub and more so it's just an Alpha. Considering it takes no more than a couple of hours to hit LV8 I highly doubt LV20 would be the cap. Like many insinuated though, there will be gear/item levels which essentially is leveling up beyond the cap but in the way of gear, not basic grinding. There are already videos showing higher levels in the Crucible.
