There should be a fee for kids under 17 years of age.

I want everybody to play Destiny, I really do. But it is a fact that children are immature and because of this, they often ruin the game for other players. It's not because they are bad people, I'm not saying that. It's because they are emotional, hot-headed, they think they know more than they do. This often causes a lot of conflict with other players who just want to have fun. The irrationality and immaturity of the children will clash with the seasoned gaming veteran. Now, I'm not saying kids should be banned from Destiny, I want them to enjoy it to. What I'm saying is that bungie takes measures to encourage the parents of children to supervise them and to teach them proper manners in online gaming. How does bungie do this you may ask? The kinect and playstation 4 camera are more than capable of reading faces and matching them up with public databases if the proper software is written for both of them. The cameras scan the children and match them up with a public record. If the child is found to be under the age of 17, an additional monthly fee of $10 will be required to allow them to play. If the fee is not paid, then they cannot play. This requires that the parents invest in the child, so the parents will not want their kids to screw it up, or else they risk being banned. Which would be a waste of money. Now why 17 you may ask? Well, 17 is the biological age of maturity. It is at this time that the process of puberty begins to end. Hormones are released into your body that allow for more rational thinking. Before this happens, it is literally impossible to be mature. Sure, some kids may act mature, but that's because they've been supervised by their parents. Some may even believe that they are mature, even going so far as to say
I'm 13/14/etc and I don't swear or do any of those things.
but that's because the way they view reality is skewed. Sure, some adults may act immature, but this is because they have to deal with immature kids. Science has shown that high pitched noises activate certain instincts in adults. It has to do with protecting the young. When babies cry, adults automatically want to do something to get the baby to stop crying. This is the instinct high pitched noises appeal to. It makes adults irrational and emotional. This is not something that contributes to a friendly gaming environment. So if you encounter a grown person who appears to be acting immature, it's probably because they just encountered a kid.

  • Or... Bungie could come up with an age-restricted "Young Guardian Special Buddy Edition" and pack-in a few hormone pills to accelerate their growth rate and (hopefully) develop early maturity!!! So more players AND more maturity! It's a win-win!!!

      • Again, I say, if you were a lead developer and required this be in your game, your sales would plummet. If you're ever a manager or lead you'll realize that sales are the most important. And while yes, this leads to annoying customers, it also leads to you making a good profit, money for your staff and the ability to CONTINUE your business. THIS idea would destroy those principles.

while i agree with the sentiment, your plan is rather ludicrous for a number of reasons. First of all, it is utterly impossible to implement as neither camera is mandatory for gaming. Second, Activision wouldn't want to alienate the main fanbase of their other juggernaut shooter franchise which will go unnamed. ;)

            • My little brother is 14 and he's actually very mature and a better player than I am. He doesn't bitch or rage at ALL. The only thing people don't like is that he sounds young. In person he sounds older but the mic causes him to sound like a child and people jump to conclusions and think he is a little kid.

              • I'm 13 and my fireteam are all around the same age and we are very mature. I've encountered lots of people who are 20 and and over( or at least say it and sound like it) who were impressed and we had a fun time. Don't let the few of us who are stupid or immature represent the rest of us.

Satire aside, I was actually in a BF2 clan around 14 and while some people despised my voice they still put up with me because I didn't pull any of that shit at any time (course having decent skill at the game helped too). Those were good times :p

                • Based upon your claims then no one under the age of 25 should be playing the game because the brains maturity (the frontal lobe-controls reasoning) isn't fully mature till 25

                • I mean I could agree that it would be nice if they separated groups by age. Have different servers. One for kids (16 and under) and then one for adults(17 and up, since you can buy mature games at 17). But I wouldn't see how you'd be able to enforce that. I do get annoyed at the little kids constantly cursing and raging all the time though.

                    • I think you have hit on a different issue with our society in general. With so many latch key kids out there they have grown up lacking various social skills and manners. Gone are the days of parents teaching their children to be polite and respectful. For the most part that doesn't exist anymore. There are exceptions to be sure and as a matter of fact a group of people I just started playing with was created just because of this sad fact. The exception here was that last night was the first time I connected with them and of the member's Son was playing and he was all of twelve. He was respectful, polite and at the same time he had a great time. He was a minority sadly in my experience as they have been usually like yours. For those of you interested check out their site. They started it back in 2007 and so far I have to say I have a great experience playing with the members even though it was the first time last night. http://www.dadsofgaming.com
