The Old Ways

You all remember this and how it held our community together. How it held us to a higher standard. The lack of rules is a big problem. What was once taboo (and for a good reason) is now accepted as the 'norm'. Users are now free to spam without repercussions. 'Shitposting' is now an everyday thing - #Destiny is being attack by #Offtopic on the daily - which would be ban worthy back in the day. I'm sure you know somebody who has actually left the site because of these users. How sad is that? Things are going to start changing around it. And I need your help to do that. Like Deej said, we can shape our community to our liking. We are the answer to our own problem - but we lack organization. With this group - Community Enforcement, we will all be on the same page. Only one requirement is needed and that is you must have been a member on B.net for at lease one year. Of course if you've been here for many more, you're welcome in. More information (such as how we operate) is in the group forums. The old ways are returning. Eventually.

    • I totally agree. The mods have been made almost useless and the rules are so lenient. It allows all the trolls, spammers, alt armies and shit posters and even nsfw posters to get away. Seriously. The rules are meant to enforce and be strict like the old bnet not be rules similar to a baby park. The mutes don't work, you can't make the magically disappear and since "the mute button" apparently gets rid of trolls they don't need to stop since you are already blocking them away, Right? No. You are also allowing people to carry on trolling and spamming and this decreases the point of making good threads therefore there will be less meaningful threads when you mute and obviously less threads in general since you muted shitposters/threads which make up a large majority of the current threads. Not to mention the report button doesn't do shit. No one bothers to use it because they see no need. They just ignore and don't report since the chances of anyone else reporting is minimal unless it is a really, really bad thread which is guaranteed to get alot of reports. No wonder spammers don't ever get banned or trolls, no reports and since the mods have no power, what is the point of them even trying. Hey, they even stripped the power of groups for no reason and aren't even returning the groups to how they used to be. The community has now reached a point of needing no dignity and I don't blame them. The rules don't enforce, bans are rare and no one even cares because they know the report button won't cut it. The community tried to stay out of trouble and act like they has at least some dignity and mature because they knew the punishments, the consequences, the bans and mods, the strict rules! Obviously Achronos is probably going to reply with "Use the mute button" without realizing its faults. What Burrito posted also basically expresses my thoughts.
The current system clearly does not and never will work, but Bungie has shown no interest in the issue aside from 'just keep muting' as if some of us don't already have hundreds of mutes. Just report stuff. I report everything bad now whether it will net a ban or not. I have been told not to bother, but if they are going to waste my time muting so much, I will make sure they are aware that there is a problem and something needs to change. Also group limit of 10 sucks.
I completely agree. I'll be joining if this actually becomes a thing. The forums need some sort of supplementary moderation by users, not dependence on mods. We need to start reporting and reminding people of Terms of Use and Code of Conduct rules.

YOU CANT CHANGE THE PEPOLE BY EXCLUDING THEM FOOL! Most users are new because if destiny. If you truly want to change the forums, you need to show the newbies you care. I've been here since halo 3, but I was really young then, and didn't link my account, and forgot my old forum passcode! I know how you feel, but your doing it wrong! If somebody is here willing to do it the right way, it doesn't matter how long you've been here! You can join us in Gaming love!(name of group)

    • Wow, that link made me have a nostalgia overload. I definitely miss the old BNET, haven't been able to adjust to whatever this is. This is the first time I've posted in close to a year, and it took me a few minutes to even figure that out.

    • This new system is so much better, why can't people see this? You don't have to wait on the mods to take care of the issue anymore.

Monkey See Monkey Do. People do not fear the Wrath of the Ban Hammer any more. Heck some of the stuff i pulled not long ago should have been ban worthy. Even in my own esteemed opinion. People these days want Deej to just ignore there troll posts let them do as they like with some of the really Taboo subjects or taking things too far. They cry about how they are being oppressed when they should know better. If you are not going to post such content in a public place such as a school or on the street why is it here ? Common Decency is a thing of the past. Making things public means that while you have the right to do so we also have the right to say what is and what is not appropriate in the public domain. Just because Deej wants us to customize our experience does not mean we have to see the same stupid people over and over with a hundred new email accounts or the new kid troll on the block who sees the other trolls then picks up the bad habits. Mute does not fix the problem and allot of times reporting unless its offensive in some way or has strong content is not even worthy of a report. Not saying it should be as strict as old B.Net but cleaning the crap out of the gutters before it clogs the system would be nice so often even if we do not see it these days. We need to keep people honest.

            • I had a couple good points, but it honestly took me a couple minutes to figure out how to post. Even now I'm not sure if I did it right. I miss the old B.net.

            • I don't have any issue with the current system. I really don't have any problem with the type of threads that are being made either. Hence I have not muted anyone.

Yes, I agree with many things in this thread but Bnext is still quite young and things will probably stay the same for a while. I like to think of this as a sort of beta version with proper adjustments being made here and there. We are basically the beta testers. I like the concept of your group, but I'd be way too serious for you guys about it and I would insist that everyone would brows the threads by the oldest first, among other things. Anyway, time will tell. I remember being inspired by older members to put some thought into my posts, but I've always enjoyed the simplicity of "T4R" and whatnot. edit- What brought me that feeling of togetherness in bungie.old was in the sense that we were directed to certain forums for certain topics/questions. Not to forget the rules and the enforcement of same. Kids need rules and boundaries.

                  • I too miss the B.net old way of managing the Community, but as for the probability of any group having any impact on the officiating of the wild-wild west forums we have today... it just won't make any difference. When Deej made reference to ' we can shape our community to our liking', I believe that was inferring that we as in 'I', you', use the tools that we now have to filter what we do and don't want to see. Nothing more. Good luck.

This again? I understand people want to get Bungie's attention, but common. Hell maybe it will work, and we should keep plugging away. However Bungie have made no sign of budging with the mute system and the Mod's (most of them anyway) havn't either. "Just mute them" seems to be the order of the year atm. Just grit and bear it. By the time Destiny launches, we might see some changes. But I doubt it..

                        • Just checked out your group, and I really like the idea of this. I wholeheartedly believe that things have gone to poop. And I think things need to change. And you and your group could really help with that. I'm with you.
