So why is there a profanity filter on a M rated game's website?

T4R. That's like having a children' board on 4chan.

I understand why its there, why its useful, and why its probably never going away. I'd just rather we not have those restrictions on principle, and would honestly rather no longer have to enforce it. I would still of course punish people for name-calling, harassment, politics, etc whenever they come up, as I do now. I don't like having to enforce the profanity filter, for my own personal reasons, and because I don't think it really does a lot. It might prevent some name-calling or excessive use of profanity, but I think the cure is worse than the disease. People do still all of the above all the time, profanity filter or not. The profanity filter just gives the users yet another way to violate our rules. Which, again, they do quite frequently. I'd rather just let them say what they want to say, and however they want to say it, and punish ancillary violations whenever they come up. I think that calling another user a name is a serious problem. I think discussing politics and religion and all that turns into serious problems. I don't think someone saying the g word or the l word, or even the f word is that big a deal. The same rules that we use to try to keep it civil here would all be in effect. We could still ban people for what we deem as excessive use of profanity. I will continue to enforce the profanity filter rule, as I have always done, and the other rules because Bungie asked me to. Its their website, their rules, and I will moderate their way. Just throwing my two cents into the fray.
Goddamn I wish I could give you a hug right now.
