So why is there a profanity filter on a M rated game's website?

T4R. That's like having a children' board on 4chan.

 •
Posted by: coolmike699 Filtering out 'the g word' so it can't be used as an insult is like filtering out the word 'black' for the same reason. It's not like putting the dog on a leash, it's like locking it in the basement. Clearly some control is required, but taking it to extremes is pointless and doesn't do anything.
How often do you see the word "black" used by 13 year olds to describe someone they dislike? Also, I feel like you're implying that conversation on this site is severely restricted by the filter list. I disagree, we're free to roam as far as the leash is long, but once we stray too far we start to choke ourselves. I think we've done fine with the profanity filter as is, and while it could use improvement, it doesn't need to be immediate. If you want to discuss subjects using words banned by the profanity filter then join a private group or a website dedicated to it. Unless Achronos decides that the community can use those words and removes them from the filter list and changes the rules.
