Share your DayZ / WarZ stories here.

I would like to hear your stories and experiences from DayZ and WarZ, I will start with my own. So, I started really getting into DayZ a few dayz ago and today I had my first real experience of the intensity of it all. Basically it started with me being 2 kilometers outside Elektro, asking about friendlies. I got to Elektro and of course some douchebag came over with his car and started blasting his rifle at me, without hitting a shot. After awhile I said "screw this place", started running out of the city when I caught some zombie aggro. While I was running to the woods, I saw a player running past me, begging me not to shoot him, as he didn't have anything on him. I gave him a hatchet I had for spare, and we headed back to Elektro's market to check it out. While there, I managed to lose the dude, but after awhile he came back. There's was something odd with him, though, as he had managed to grow a beard and acquire a crowbar. After another while the real dude came back, and I was like "whattafuuuuuuu-". So we stayed together, all 3 of us now, until someone started unloading on us. We ran to the church, or chappel, whatever, where we healed our wounds and gave each other supplies. Then the server went down :( I was happy I was still alive at the moment, but also sad I had lost contact with great people. Share your own stories for us!

 • Ah, Day Z. So many, many stories. This was one of the most intense for me: After logging in and discovering that the truck I had stashed the previous week had disappeared, I took a jerry can and a spare tire from my tent not too far away and went in search of another vehicle. Berezino(pictured) being near, I decided to head there. I could at least check the store and hospital for supplies in the very likely event that there wasn't a vehicle in somewhat decent shape. Approaching the city from the southwest (the right side in that screenshot), the small junkyard was one of the first things that came into sight. Much to my surprise, I saw a blue van sitting right in the middle of that junkyard, and I could tell it did have at least two working wheels. There didn't seem to be any activity throughout the parts of the city I could see, so I ran up to the van as fast as I could to give it a more thorough inspection. There wasn't anything stashed in it, but luckily it did only need one wheel and some fuel to be in drivable condition. So, I fixed it up, and after a much-shorter-than-expected delay I was mobile again. I decided to skip past the hospital and store now and use my limited fuel and head up to the northeast airstrip. But merely seconds after making that decision, passing the hospital, and trying to cut through some backyards I was interrupted by gun fire pinging off the front side of the van. "Oh, sh**," I thought, "I've gotta turn back fast." So I did just that. I was now driving back south weaving through yards trying to make it passed the hospital and to freedom. But then another surprise came in the form of more gunshots pinging off of...the front of the van. This second gunman managed to shootout one of the van's tires and I was trapped. One guy raining down bullets from the hospital roof, and the other probably approaching quickly from behind. I hopped out of the van as quickly as I could and tried to get behind it for some cover from the hospital gunman. The shooter got a few hits on me while I was exposed and managed to break my leg right as I got into cover. Now behind the van with bullets pinging all around me as I tried to give myself a dose of morphine so I could walk again, it was starting to look like the end. "I'm f***ed. I'm totally f***ed," I said to myself, ready to just take my hands of the keyboard and accept my fate. But then I remembered something. I had picked up a smoke grenade earlier from the same junkyard I found the van in. It seemed unlikely to do much in the situation considering the superior position of the gunman, but I gave it a try anyway. I tossed it close to the van and in between the van and the hospital and waited. After a few seconds the smoke cloud was fairly large and, thanks to the wind, blowing toward the van and myself. As I had hoped, the smoke grenade had, for whatever reason, made the gunman on the roof stop firing. As the smoke cloud completely surrounded me, I saw my opening and dashed north and then west, weaving between houses until I reached a field with nothing more than a few bushes in it. Both gunmen had resumed firing on me as I broke from the cloud, so I had no time to look for a better route and headed through the field, zig-zagging as best as I could. About half-way across the field the gunshots stopped and, after I made it to the treeline of the nearby forest, I took cover in a pine tree and looked back at the city. Now that I was either out of their range or they were out of ammo, I brought my sniper rifle to my shoulder and prepared to take out the bastard on the roof. Unfortunately, I couldn't spot him anywhere through the scope. After about 20 seconds of trying to spot him, I heard this: "Shifty McKey, drop your weapon or I'm gonna blow your f***ing head off." "Sh**," I thought. The guy on the ground managed to reach me while I was distracted. I moved my head left and right expected to see this guy standing right behind me, weapon aimed, but I couldn't spot him. "Drop that f***ing gun right now, son," the gunman said again, and again I still couldn't see him. I was preparing to say something back and surrender but then I noticed he was using Side Chat instead of Direct. "This guy has no clue where I am, or at least he's not actually near me," I thought, sighing with relief. Still, not wanting to push my luck, I backed off through the forest and headed toward a hill that offered a great view of the Berezino hospital area and was safely about a full kilometer away from it. I wanted these bastards dead. Once I reached my over-watch spot, I adjusted my scope's cross hairs to the maximum range and waited. After a few minutes, I saw both of the gunmen climb onto the hospital roof and start looting for medical supplies. I opened fire as soon as one of them was standing still long enough, but the combination of the long range and massive height difference made accurate shooting difficult. I managed to get a body shot on one of them right they realized where the bullets were coming from and managed to find cover. No matter. I'm committed to this now. I can wait. After about a minute or so of them popping up just for a split second trying to spot me with binoculars and me continuing to force their heads back down, I heard a noise in the distance behind me. It was a chopper engine, and it was getting louder. "That can't be coming here. It's just going to pass by," I tried to assure myself, but I was wrong. The Huey flew came from behind me and flew about 20 meters over my head and straight toward the Berezino hospital. Once over the hospital, the pilot began to lower it right onto the roof. "Oh, no f***ing way are these a**holes getting chopper rescued," I muttered to myself, "Not after everything that's just gone down." The chopper was hovering barely above the roof, oriented so that the right-side turret was facing me. Once it was stationary, I opened fire on the gunner. My first shot missed and pinged off of the gunner's M60. I adjusted my aim and quickly fired again. This time the bullet hit it's mark and the gunner fell out of the chopper onto the roof below. The pilot quickly started taking off just as someone else jumped into the now empty gunner's seat. Again, I managed to take out the gunner and his body fell to the ground below. Now, a third person hopped into the turret seat and began firing on the hospital roof below. This confused me greatly, so I held my fire and just watched as the two guys I that had originally ambushed me were gunned down and the chopper flew away. There was a lot of chatter in side chat after the incident. Apparently the guys in the chopper a)weren't actually with the 2 guys on the roof, b)didn't' see them on the roof when they were landing, and c)assumed that my shots were the dudes on the roof firing and proceeded to mow them down. It wasn't the ending I had hoped for, but after all of that I was still alive.
