Anyone else insulted by this?

"What you’re seeing is roughly the same situation as you would have in Halo 2, but with movies and screenshots available to examine this stuff, you’re seeing more alleged injustice on a frame by frame basis. The sniper IS harder to use now, so sack up, it requires more skill." This is what we got in response to asking why the hit detection is glitchy in the sniper rifle. Are we really being told, in the face of irrefutable evidence that the sniper is glitchy, that we should just deal with it because it's now "harder to use"? I wouldn't mind if the hit detection was a little off and from time to time shots go through heads...I can deal with that. The problem is that IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. By the way, for those who are going to tell me it's lag...it's not. I've done it in local games, and against stationary (afk) players on Live. It's not a lag issue. It's a hit-detection issue. I've got over 15 clips of this happening in the past 2 days. (I've uploaded some of the more blatant ones, and more are coming later) PLEASE, Bungie, don't throw this back in our face and tell us it's our fault. The first step to fixing a problem is to admit it's there. PLEASE admit the hit-detection's a little off...even if it can't be fixed. And don't even get me started on the Double Reload glitch... By the way, I know this has been discussed, but it's so infuriating that I needed to vent a little. I was really pissed when I read that "sack up, it requires more skill" crap. Sorry.

 • im usualy the "o stop complaining, just get used to it" guy, but after seeing TOOOOOONS of evidence where shots are BBBLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTENTLY hitting people in their DOME and NOT counting, i must agree. it has even happened to me as of late. i was playing shotty snipers on last resort and one guy was perched atop the tower on the sea-wall...just sitting there, looking in another direction, totally oblivious to me taking aim on his dome. i put my aimer on the TIP of his head, so as to make sure it would NOT count as a glitchy body shot, but still not go over his head....took aim...steady....steady....BOOM! ...waited for the recoil to settle....another shot, BOOM!....he turns and looks over at me with his sheilds CLEARLY down and flashing, and then BOOM! ......IIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMM DEAD!??? needless to say, i almost broke my controller....wow the rage that filled me...wow. so, wut about that bungie...huh? and DONT you DARE say it was lag...he was sitting STILL!? 2 EFFING HEAD SHOTS!? thats rediculous. • They actually improved Halo 3 by making clientside predictions of where Player might be moving. So lets say you have a sniper and are looking at someone running forward. If they suddenly make a right turn and crouch, (and also if there is high latency) then they will appear to keep walking forward for maybe 500 milliseconds? This is the clientside prediction that makes you shoot at them and it appears to hit from your POV, but in the host's POV, you basically shot in front of him and missed. In Halo 2 they had this sort of system but wasn't used as effectively. So in Halo 2 they would just skip around if there was lag, and the sniper wouldn't even attempt to shoot since it seemed impossible to kill that guy. This is only my observations, but i'm pretty sure i'm right.

 • Am I missing something? I don't see a problem with the sniper rifle. In fact I'm better with it in Halo 3 than I was in Halo 2.

 •
Posted by: Melthris I would like to see proof of these allegations (especially via system link games) because I for one have never experienced this, nor have my friends or anybody else I personally know that play Halo 3 online. I think it is a lag factor that comes into play and alot of people who claim they have done a head shot with the Beam Rifle or the Sniper Rifle are either lying, clearly didn't shoot the person in the head or just have lag during that game. It happens. I have noticed (and am not blaming or putting you guys into this group) that many Halo 2 fans claim that Halo 3's sniping is terrible and is way off. Well let me say right now that it is the player who is off. Halo 2 compensated ALOT for players with its auto-aim on steroids. Halo 3 has done a massive wind down with its auto aim and now when you are playing online you know that if you miss, you miss, if you hit somebody then hey you hit them by yourself without auto-aiming holding your hand.
Was this entire thread TLDR for you or something?

 • They're not talking about sacking up if your shots go through the head, they're working on that, and yes, I'm sorry to tell you, it IS lag. I have not had a single problem with the sniper rifle. My shots have registered exactly where I've put them. Maybe Bungie decided that YOU should get a copy of the game that has a line of code in their to throw off the hit detection...anyway, yeah, sack up.

 • Not to try to ruin the heat of the moment. But the Sniper Rifle does register more than ya think. Take my buddy SMOOBERSON for example, he doesn't appear to be having any trouble with the weapon so far. BTW, notice that he has almost half of his Sniper Kills with headshots. However, I do in fact agree with your statement. But just remember that Halo 3 is still new to the gaming world and still has alot of unsolved bugs and glitches that need to be worked out.

 • Ignorance and stupidity? I find that more insulting that being told to get better at using a weapon, though the pain is just bearable...I hope. Why do we feel such loyalty to a company? Hm, well for me its really down to the fact that Bungie have produced my 3 favourite games of all time; they thought of everything that I wanted in all 3. Just like pepsi, they make a new flavour that you like, so you're likely to buy that over Fanta etc. Same could be said with any product really; Sony make good TV's, so you tend to buy their TVs over Sanyo? (just examples folks). Either way, get a reality check d00d.
You are referencing a question asked in the weekly update about why some weapons are harder to use. (Or at least, that was the way in which it was answered) Slower firing rate does make the sniper rifle harder to use. The question was NOT about glitched hit detection. Take things out of context much? [Edited on 10.08.2007 1:29 PM PDT]

Although Ive pritty much started getting used to it.

 • I am insulted by this, and im also amazed by the ignorance and stupidity of some of my fellow halo players. Im not sure if people cant read, dont choose to, or are just down right stupid. Look over the posts people why would people come into this thread and make up this issue, maybe it hasnt happened to you (youre lucky), but that certaintly doesnt mean that it hasnt happened to others. At any given time there probably 300,000 people playing h3, lets say that this happens to 1 in every 1000 people thats still happening 300 times (correct me if im wrong, math is not my strongsuit, but i think you can see what im getting at). Its hapened to me plenty, i dont have a cc and im not going to buy one to try to prove my case to a bunch of fanboys. Speaking of that, why do people feel such loyalty to a company? They make a product and we buy it, its just like any other company, if pepsi came out with a bad shipment that was contaminated in some way would you defend them, or say they needed to take responsibliity? here is a video of the glitch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e99Qf6TmLQA if youre too lazy to look at this or read the posts in this thread before posting something in ignorance you shouldnt be here at all. And not that rank means that much, but i have 2 lv. 42 accounts so saying im bad isnt a valid argument

 • I am of the opinion that the bullet smoke trail and blood are simply out of synch somehow with the actual shot. Like say for example, you fire at someone and the smoke trail connects with them and the blood occurs, but in reality you actually missed. Take this screenshot of mine from a custom game with friends: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13499441 In that pic you can clearly see my smoke trail hitting his feet and blood coming out, even though in the actual game I was aiming for his head. And I can tell you for a fact, with full shields, that he did indeed go down with that single shot. But there's no way anyone would die instantly from a sniper shot to the feet. This leads me to believe that my shot actually did hit him in the head, but for whatever reason, the smoke trail and blood manifested at his feet. [Edited on 10.08.2007 12:21 PM PDT]

 • To respond to the actual question of this thread: No. If anything, it made me laugh and brought a nice smile to my face. I'd hate it for Bungie to turn into some grovelling dog just because a few of you guys are having issues with a video game. Now, I rarely post in this forum; sure, I check out the threads every day, but I tend not to post in them, but here goes.. "I'm never gonna buy a bungie product again", stop lying! You know you will! :O Their response to the question may seem a little arrogant, but it really should be taken light heartedly. If Snipers are causing trouble, go blow the guys balls off with the Shotgun instead; its what I do anyway. In no way am I saying that there isn't a bug, nor that there is. I have seen a video or two where it does seem the shot hadn't registered, but I've never had this problem, so I don't see a reason complain. Really though, I reckon its all due to connection problems. *fire in the hole* P.S - In true, fanboyism manner, I LOVE YOU BUNGIE! HALO OWNS! THANK. YOU. SO. DAMN. MUCH!

My File Share: Film Clip: Broken Sniper 2 Stationary Target = No lag BTW disregard the "SNIPER FAILS" video, as that's a really bad example of this glitch. I'll remove that one from the share when I get home. On that one it's possible I missed, it's kind of iffy... Anyway the other 2 I have ULed right now are clear headshots. • From the Cinema Paradiso vidDoc: -Save films are a way for the player to go back and see EXACTLY what happened. Where did that bullet come from? How did they get the flag out of our base when we had 3 people guarding it? etc" It was inferred that save films were EXACTLY what happened. LAG does not affect how a shot hits a person THAT ISN'T MOVING. I have no issue with errors from time to time. Sniper I can understand. But a GHOST Running someone over? That isn't just once. That is multiple hits that had to be missed in-game. [Edited on 10.08.2007 11:50 AM PDT]
