Interaction in Forums

I've been looking around non-gaming forums lately, and they are surprisingly different. I'm not going to get into all my little theories on how it should be... ...but this sticky owns! It may be a bit offensive. That doesn't matter because just about everything in it could pertain to any forum, especially this one. Something like this should be mandatory reading for new people. I know there are probably a million better introduction-stickies, but this came from a site called Ninja Burger. It's just too damn funny.

 •
Posted by: EastwardJorge1 Start posting things important because posting sucky webs really sucks!
That's kind of what that thread talks about. I'm not really sure what's important to talk about anymore, and you don't seem to either because I don't see you contributing anything "important" either. Unless it's some kind of technical issue, which there are a few legitimate ones lately, most threads are complaining of some sort. Most are about people's posting habits or complaints about issues that can't possibly be solved. Or, in other forums, complaints about the games that have already been addressed. Without all those, what would the forums be? The only thing that leaves is the actual community just...talking to each other. That's why the Flood actually fits an ideal forum better than the rest. Most of the regulars in there and in the Septagon actually just discuss whatever is brought up in the threads in a friendly, semi-thought out fashion. The threads in New Mombasa and other Halo forums are generally complaints, but the few exceptions where people just try to get creative opinions on aspects of the game are knocked off the page. That creates more complaints and that turns around into more complaints and then a standard seems to be set. I'm not saying, "Don't argue. Don't speak your thoughts when you see something that upsets you." I'm saying try not add anything that's an obvious statement. Try not to add an opinion that's not being asked for in a thread. Try not to start a thread just because you're bored. Just read existing threads until you find something interesting that you think you might help out in. Don't get offended if somebody that's been around for a while gives you a litttle crap.
