New Members And "Lurking"

With the increasing number of new members to the forums these days with the release of Halo 2 growing ever so closer, a lot of people are posting their first post without knowing anything about the forums they are posting in. This is a good time for people with some experience with the forums to step up and give new people a hand. I know that it can get quite annoying when you see the tenth new person of the day posting a post in the wrong forums, or asking a question that has been asked a dozen times before, but making them feel welcome is going to help us a lot more than flaming them. Not that I've really seen many people running around screaming bloody murder at every new member on the boards and calling them all n00bs, and excuse my French, but helping all of the new members out will make everyone a lot happier. Hopefully after the launch of Halo 2 we will see the amount of locked threads go down (wouldn't that be nice). On another note, I wanted to thank the members that have been posting helpful advice already for the newer members. It's making everyones time in the forums a lot better. For new members - Now, if you are new to forums altogether look around a bit before you post. This term is called “lurking” and it helps you get a feel for the forums you will be posting in. I personally spent over a month just reading around the Bungie.net forums, not posting at all, just getting to know the people and how the place was run. If your so eager to post that you just can't wait, here you can find a basic outline of what posts go where. Posting in the right forums will save you, and the moderators, a lot of hassle. Just use common sense when posting. Try to correct all typos that you catch and use proper grammar, and show respect to others posting ^^. These and other rules can also be found in the link above, click that for more details. Anyways I just wanted to post this to help everyone deal with the rush of new posters that we've had, and will probably continue to have, for the next couple months. Thanks for reading, I hope I've helped some.

 •
Posted by: un gato
Posted by: GameJunkieJim That's not exactly a fair statement -- I said something similar to that about 16 year olds a few months ago -- But here you are, proving that statement wrong.
Posted by: Josher 35 Considering that the new people are mostly around the age of 14, they could care less about rules and FAQS.
People are extremely individual when it comes to maturity and responsibility. The fact of the matter is -- there are just as many 20 year olds that pay no attention either.
Here, use me as an example. I'm fifteen. What's your ruling?
Lots of potential, but a little inexperienced. Of course, time mends all things.
