Village's Untitled Halo Fanfic --- Part 2

Part One The beginning is the most boring part, so I'm getting the introductions out of the way. Here's part two: ---Part Two--- Cory came to in a medical bay in the marines headquarters just off Tsavo Highway. "So they say he's here, right now....." ......................... "Armor was hevily damaged in..." ....................... Cory was only hearing fractions of converstions before falling back into sleep. "Heard he took out that Mombasa scarab pretty well, yes........." ....................... Cory finally awoke indefinitely and sat up, painfully. A vicious wound covered his side. He groaned. Shiva, clad in his MJOLNIR from neck to feet, welcomed him back into conciousness with a tray of medical food. MRE's, still fully canned. "Hey, Cory, chow time. I didn't uncan it. I figured you could blow it open with your spike grenades or whatever with a gaping hole in your side." Shiva welcomed him gruffly. "Shiva, what the hell is your problem, I saved-" Cory started before vomiting from a sudden rush of dizzyness that washed over him. Shiva crossed his voice before he could begin to speak again. "Save who? Me? Ok, sure. Save the guy fully armed and unharmed while you bleed through your now-absent left torso!!!" Shiva's scream echoed through the medical room, rebounding from the whitewashed walls dangerously. Minutes passed until Shiva put his gauntlet up to his Scout-Class grey MJOLNIR helmet, and sighed. Cory, now put into focus, began to speak. "Shiva.... what can i say here? You were right... again, but I know that you were concerned for my safety, but that was my reasoning as well." At this Shiva buried his visor in his hands. "Cory, What could i do if you died? I would have to bear the weight of it for my life." Silence once agaiun permeated the small infirmary chamber. Shiva pulled his face from his hands and spoke once again, but in an even softer tone. "I forgot. The Chief. He's Here." Cory's mouth went dry, and his eyes lost focus. "Can we meet him?" "Not unless we can legally assassinate 12 feet of papparazzi. They all thought he was dead after the Delta Halo mission. Military's been keeping secrets." Cory slowly got to his feet, wrapping himself in the humid, stiff bedding. Shiva handed Cory his MJOLNIR greaves, boots, and cuirass. After equipping these, he set himself upon donning his pauldrons and gauntlets. "Hey Cory, what cuirass attatchment do you want?" "Scout, if it's available." Shiva reached into the cabinet next to the hospital bed, and recoiled in shock. Cory kneeled by his side to inspect the item of his surprise. Sitting on the shelf was an olive green Mark V Spartan II helmet. "Oh my god...." Shiva whispered. Etched on the back were the numbers "117." "It's his!!! God, we've got to get it to him!!" Shiva helped Cory hobble out the door. The "12 feet of papparazzi" was not an exaggeration. There was no way they were reaching the chief. "Can I help you?" An African-American, gruff man barked to the two. "Yeah. We found the Chief's old helmet. What should we do with it?" The man inspected it carefully. "May I?" he asked. "Go ahead." He lifted the helm and examined it, a remiscent gleam in his eyes. "You two are Spartans, correct?" "Yes sir!" "Then it belongs to you." Cory's jaw dropped. "Really?" "Why not? You look helmetless, and it can easily be painted to match your current look." Cory thought for a few seconds before Shiva spoke up. "You'd be like part two of the legacy! And you could always use a Rouge Helmet when you're not in combat...." Cory made up his mind. "Well... thank you, sir!" Cory barked in gratitude, his voice as high as a merry schoolboy. Back in the infirmary, the helmet had already been spraypainted yellow-orange in 30 minutes to match Cory's armor. He fit it upon his head, and felt a sense of power rush about him. He felt so unable to contain it, so unworthy. He swore a solemn oath in his mind to prove himself strong enough to content the standards set by the armor. He allowed the hydraulic clips to set into place, holding the helm in place.
