Thought that the movie deserved a thread.
All I have to say is badass, BADASS movie. It was deep, it was intelligent, and it asked question. What I got out of it was 'If you could kill Hitler as a child, would you? Or would you save him?'
Anyone else get as similar message, or do you think my interpretation is completely off?
Also, really well handled though. It proves that Levitt can be a fantastic actor, and that Bruce Willis can have a darker, more villainy role. Although I think the best thing about the movie is that it didn't have a villain, well, possibly Abe. But not really. It was all grey, there was no black and white characters. Old Joe wasn't truly bad because three lives of attempting to kill the Rainmaker, but the Rainmaker would kill numerous people in the future, so it was justified. Murky, but justified. Young Joe kills for a living, but it's mostly criminals so it isn't exactly evil either. Future Rainmaker is an emotionally scarred man forced to live in the gutter, and while kinda evil, he's as evil as Hitler, in that he could have been easily diverted had he been helped by somebody.
So in the end, the only true way to fix it was for Joe to kill himself. He was out of the range of Old Joe, and if he didn't kill him the mother would have been killed and the whole damn circle would have started again.
Can't wait till it comes out on DVD. Will be one of those movies I re-watch once a month to analyze more.
