I just played the greatest Halo custom map ever

Lumoria. It was started by TM Mapping Team in 2009 and they just finished it 100% on October 4th. Trailer 1 Trailer 2 You play as a female spartan named May tasked with stopping the Covenant from finding a map to the entire galaxy. It was built off of the CE engine, but there were so many unique additions that made it feel like a brand new game entirely. The action was constant and the level design was superb. It gave me a huge nostalgia throwback towards CE and at the same time delivered a fresh and new experience. The encounters were what you'd expect in a Halo game, but there were clearly unique risks taken that set it apart from a Bungie game. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, I was surprised yet again. There was massive vehicle combat and large infantry battles that you think the game wouldn't be able to handle. Seeing Halo 2 vehicles swarming around and charging headlong into a dozen vehicles with a whole bunch of marines behind me was some of the most fun I've had in a Halo game. It had spectacular cinematic moments and there was just nonstop action for both vehicle and infantry encounters. Did I want to snipe the AI with my infantry? Did I want to charge full on with a tank? Or did I want to cover my marines from the skies? I could approach many of the large-scale sections anyway I wanted. Either way, I ended up admiring the environment and sheer scale of the structures that were built. And there were my favorite Covenant Crates all over the place. Remember how in Reach's Tip of the Spear you see a huge vehicle battle, but you don't get to take part in it? Well you do in Lumoria, and you do it several times. This mini campaign creates some of the greatest encounters I've seen in a Halo game period. You truly feel like a Spartan and that you're doing something that matters to the story, unlike past games where it seemed like you were cast aside. To top it all off, it featured music from Halo 2 AND Halo 3 in addition to Halo CE, and it almost always complemented the moment. Nothing was greater than hearing Peril come on at the right time and In Amber Clad chime in as I waded through waterfalls. Granted, the voice acting was hard to listen to (and I mean really bad), and my PC crapped itself whenever I would go in a vehicle. Then there's the fact that I don't like CE's controls much either. However, none of this deterred me and I was grinning ear to ear from start to finish. I highly recommend this to anyone if you have a PC that can run custom edition. If you're a fan of CE's Campaign, specifically Halo and Assault on the Control Room, then you'll be able to appreciate and enjoy what these guys were able to do in Custom Edition. This is how the first game should have been. 9/10. [Edited on 10.06.2012 11:45 AM PDT]
