Should "better" members be recognised?

By "better" I refer to members (or groups of members) who make contributions to the community. For instance, by the way they post, sharing their artwork, stories, organising game nights, etc... Why not have a way of identifying the role models in this community?

  • Perhaps you could start with a list of "core values" that this site holds in high regard. Technological prowess Artistic aptitude Respect and courtesy Things of that nature.... After having found the list of values, you could devise a plan for recognition. My only concern is that in the end these stamps of recognition will become a job, much like your moderating, resulting in typecasting and prevent other users input. Not to mention, the recognized member may not want to be riddled with questions about their said status. Say your a tech savvy guy, do you really want all tech questions suddenly being directed your way? Perhaps a behind the scenes acknowledgement might work just as well.
