"Have a good day"?

A thought occurred to when when I was out eating last night. When I was finished eating, the one employee at the cash register call out to me and said, "Have a good day" in a very sullen manner. At the time nothing appeared strange to me when she said this. But at a deeper look things started to look odd. Very odd. Now, there are a few things that came to mind when she said this. 1: It was clearly night at the time in which she said this. I don't know where in her warped imagination that she thought that it was still day time. At least be logical and say something like, "Have a nice night!" or "Have a nice evening!" And so on. Maybe it was because she was busy counting out today's intake of money, that would definitely be a great distraction for me, or maybe it was because they were about 10 minutes from closing. Perhaps there is no reasonable explanation. Ah, the great mysteries of life. To think, we sit at our computers quibbling about very minor subjects or annoyances in our lives when this vast, unimaginably large universe of stars and galaxies lays out in wait on the horizon of our world. Untouchable, mystifying. The grandest of mysteries. Oh, sorry. I've strayed off topic. Where was I? 2: I don't want to have just a "nice day" or "nice night." I want the rest of my day to be GREAT. "Good" is not enough, I never get to live this day again, I want the day or night to be fantastic! By this action of not wanting me to have a great day, I'm guessing the employee in question would prefer for me to fall in a ditch. Why would you not want for me to have a great day? I'm one of the people helping keep the restaurant you work at alive. Hell, I could think of five better restaurants just at the tip of my hat. But I still chose to eat at your place of employment, keeping in mind that I could be eating much better food elsewhere. I have more proof that this one employee wanted me to fall in a ditch, or just drop dead: There were two toothpicks in my sandwich, the kinds that you use to keep the sandwich together. Well, I was busy eating my sandwich, imagining what the judges on Iron Chef would think about the food of this quaint eatery, when I found that one of the toothpicks was shorter than the other one. At first I gave no direct attention to this; it was probably just some fluke in the making of the toothpick or whatever. But as I proceeded to eat my sandwich, I found something really hard around the middle of it, a bit the right where the toothpick was. As it turns out, part of the toothpick had some how broken off into my food, and I now had the wooden fragment in my mouth. This could've just been an accident, but it would probably be pretty hard to break a toothpick (and this one was pretty big) just by inserting it into a sandwich made of nothing but bread, meat, mustard, and some garnishes. It probably was just an accident, but it definitely didn't improve the quality of the rest of my night. And wood doesn't really taste that good. 3: The rest of my night, or day according to the cashier, definitely wasn't "good." Nor was it great. It was extremely (ya hear that? That's serious. I used bold and italics. And I used really cool words like "extremely") mediocre. Thanks a lot, depressingly un-cheerful cashier. You ruined the rest of my night just because you didn't tell me to have a great day. People need encouragement sometimes, and I definitely wasn't getting any that night just because of the soulless husk of a cashier didn't tell me to have a great day. Come on, it's not like I get encouragement from anywhere else. I depend of the kindness of strangers I meet in restaurants and such, and I didn't get any here. Hey, if I had gotten more encouragement, I could've done something incredible like run a marathon, write a video game, cure cancer, ect. Maybe I'm looking at this a bit too roughly and need to step back and see the big picture. Maybe I depend on the kindness of strangers too much (man, what movie is that line from? I can't remember) And at least I got food! Look at all those unfortunate people who barely have any food to live on. I guess I should be thankful, at the most. ... Hey, maybe I'm just paranoid. Whatever. Whoa, I went one for a while there. What a rant. Sorry for sucha long, sarcastic sounding post. But whatever. Discuss.
