•
Posted by: fragrate Brutes ruined Halo 2, just cut them off Halo 3. Either that or i really hope they turn out the way you guys say they are going to. Still, nothing can be the same as going against the Elites... Anyway, is there work being done on the Marines? The Marines in both Halo 1 and 2 were as dumb as a rock, I tell you even a 12 year old kid would kill more Elites using a rifle than those guys, please, they are Marines, make them act like Marines. Oh, and No more Arbiter please!!! I want to play as the Master Chief. Sure, have the Arbiter in the game but not playable... I'd rather play as the MC through going through the library then the stupid Arbiter. lol
I don't think Brutes ruined Halo 2. But I don't think they added much to the game. They pretty much created the conflict that will lead up to Halo 3. Thats really all Halo 2 was. A prelude. Personally, I thought the storyline could've had a little more flavour. It felt a little repetitive and I didn't feel like there was anything else going on around me, plot wise. I agree, there should be much work done on the marines for Halo 3. If the marines had something similiar to the "Brute Pack" they spoke of in the documentary, it might give the illusion that the marines work as a squad, rather than standalone soldiers. Yes. No more arbiter please. While I know it may have been necessary to further the Covenant conflict, it took away from the struggle of the humans and the MC, who we really want to play. • Hay, Frankie are you able to take on the rule of Bruts this time around so your on the bad guys side so you can play the game over again and have a diffent ending where Chef dies or something? and bruts rule the world? just a simple question? Adding to my question i Know you can play the bruts and you can play the bad guys on Halo 2 but can you really play a story mode with the bruts? [Edited on 12/20/2006]

 •
Posted by: II7 Masterchief I watched it and i see new armor for the brutes. The brutes still are just growling monkeys. Elites were honorable warriors. So tell me if i am correct. Brutes, grunts, jackals, and drones are the main enemy. You are using the halo 2 engine to make the game. You brought back the melee lunge. The arbitor is back. The levels look narrow and i didnt see any huge epic battles. You added alot more useless weapons to choose from. Please tell me why. I was so excited for halo 3 until i saw that vid. You said halo 3 is alot like the original. It looks nothing like it. Its halo 2 with more things that make the game lamer. WHY bungie. Please release something new to show me i am wrong. Big battles. No melee lunge. The halo 1 pistol. I get to fight some elites and not just lame brutes
How about I "release" the blatantly obvious facts that you have seemed to have over looked... "There are no finished graphics in the documentary, and everything you see is a work in progress. " "Everything you see here is a work in progress, and I’m afraid you won’t be seeing anything like finished graphics." "The graphics you see in the Vidoc are a mixture of things. For one thing, they’re months old. " "You’ll see some near final models, some rough character rigs, placeholder lighting and a lot of “sandbox” locations. These are basically spaces that the designers, animators and artists place their models to play around with them. That’s one reason why there are so many scenes of big empty rooms with crates in them. " "That’s why we call it a work in progress. If you’re looking for the final look of Halo 3 campaign, it’s not in there, except in the briefest of hints." "The reason there are so many Brutes in the doc, is that it’s a doc about Brutes…" "No. We show very little gameplay interaction with Brutes in this piece. When you fight them, their behaviors change dramatically and strategically. And of course, there’s more than one kind of Brute." All of those were direct quotes from the update about the video The pistol from halo 1 that you mentioned was in the Halo 3 commercial And who ever said they were going to use the Halo 2 engine to build this game, Bungie clearly stated that announcment trailer was the actual game engine in action. Obviosly that wasn't the halo 2 engine. Do a little research if your so concerned of the outcome of halo 3 before you take up forum space..... [Edited on 12/20/2006]

 • I am glad Bungie has recognized that brutes were at best an annoyance in Halo 2 and is working to rectify their behavior, look, and other characteristics. If you can make them a smart enemy that doesn’t go bonkers when they are getting shot and charge you head on, then I think the third iteration in the series will surpass its forefathers. The brain-dead charge is one reason I feel so many hate the flood, but even I like the flood more than the brutes. Halo 2 brutes felt like a dumb elite armored oaf that tried to fight like a faster moving hunter until he got frustrated by his lack of skill and charged to his death. Oh and thank you for not making us play as a brute. Hooray! Bungie is redoing the brutes!

 • I noticed Grunts fighting along with the Brutes. I was under the impression that at the end of Halo 2 it was Grunts/Elites vs. Brutes/Jackals/Drones in the Covenant schism. Has this lineup changed for Halo 3 or are these Grunts "drafted"? [Edited on 12/20/2006]

 • To all the people that think this vid-doc was representative of the final game...your ignorance and narrow-minded thinking is incredibly laughable. This is obviously just the briefest of glimpes into what Halo 3 will become. It's so funny to read what all the "purists" are writing, claiming Halo 1 was apparently the only good game in the series. Halo 1 and Halo 2 (in my humble opinion of course) are both incredibly fun and engrossing games. This new video got me so pumped to play Halo 3 that I can't really describe it. Multiplayer aside, the campaign is what I'm really looking forward too; all the exciting combat and answers to many burning questions that have been raised about this time period in the Halo universe. What struck me is the design and implied behavior of the Brutes. The amazing armor and weapons designs harken to a tribal or ancient samurai vibe infused with Covenant technology. It seems that they're more than worthy to stand toe-to-toe with the Elites as the Prophet of Truth's driving military force behind his newly derived, or what maybe the case, planned Covenant. Just the art direction and VERY EARLY WORK that was shown holds great promise. I personally can't wait. Oh, and good sir Frank O'Connor, are the three ranks of Brute shown the only kind, and are there still more weapons in the Halo universe to reveal? P.S. - No one knows what will and won't be in this game. Don't be so quick to judge it. It has been the briefest of glimpes from early work. [Edited on 12/20/2006]

 • I watched the Halo 3 video about the Brutes. Bungie I hope you fixed those graphics! I mean come on, have you seen Gears of War. Was the monitors in the back ground displaying the game closer to how its really going to look? It looked to me much sharper and more detailed in the monitors in the back ground.

 • So with the Change with the brutes new Attire does this signify change in the brutes becoming the replacement of the elites; or is it just a change because Xbox 360 has the ability to push this great looking stuff out and it just makes them look more like a threat? Maybe both!? http://www.matrixmania.com/photopost/data/517/82721166668598266-med.jpg

 • You know the first thing that got me excited about halo:CE was the marines. That was about it as soon as I saw the cool eye piece and the weapon on there hands along with the sudden action that was taking place. All I could think about was the marine action and tactics. Then about oh, a few weeks later I went and got the game. It was the first game I bout for the xbox. Then like a few weeks later I went and got my xbox to play it on. But those weeks went by fast because I pretended that huge battles where going on drops ships where dropping marines at certain spots. I made my own battles just using my immagination. Then I played halo:CE and I have to say it was awsome. Then halo 2 came in and it just didn't feel like the original for some reason. I was young then now well, I am being careful about everything and this and that. But I still plan on getting halo 3 hoping that the filling returns.

 • Question for Bungie: I saw some very cool 3DS animations in the video that involved limb detachment (particularly that brute ripping the marines arms off). Any chance of stuff like that making it into the final build, or is that kind of stuff considered too graphic for the Halo universe? Also, was the whole brute ripping the arms off a marine thing supposed to be similar to Chewbacca ripping the arms off a Stormtrooper in Lego Star Wars II? I couldn't help but draw the parallels.

 •
Posted by: Duzz10 I don't really care for brutes, even after watching the movie. Its not that ther no fun its just the elites were always the main threat. They were cunning, agile, and deadly. And the hunters were walking tanks, they were to easy in halo but halo 2 made them harder. The hunters should be a unstoppable force, lethal as a wraith, cunning as an elite, and physico as a brute. Hunters and elite were just fun to fight.
i agree they should work on every character like the hunters cause they can be deadly with elites next to them with grunts, i know grunts suck but with 6 grunts, 3 elites, and 2 hunters, good luck cause plasma pistil no joke charged, elites with swords or plasma rifles or sniper, and overall the walking tank, the hunter behind it all, even the chief has his work cut out for him, and thats would be hard on normal, legendary, forget that.

 • Hi Frankie. I am a long time Bungie.net user and fan of Halo. I just wanted to ask a question. Most of the original fans were lured from PC gaming onto the original Xbox by Halo: CE. A lot of those fans have since departed because of a perceived change in direction since Halo 2, only to be replaced by a younger generation of fans. After seeing the new ViDoc. I cant help but feel that this game is going further down the path that drove all those original fans away. Personally I really don't want to waste anymore of my time chasing a dream that will never come, only to be disappointed again by the finale product. I know Halo 2 is a great game. I have been told so on many occasions, but sadly it did not appeal to me like the first one did. So my question is - Does Bungie recognise that there has been a change in direction ? and if so, was it planned or unintentional ? [Edited on 12/20/2006]
