I don't like that way of thinking. I've heard tons of stories used in dozens of ways. You cannot interpret things in multiple ways unless all of than can be. Again, in which case, since one can be interpreted in multiple ways, all can. Why does rule 'X' have to be strictly adhered to and followed and rule 'Y' does not? And of course there's the standard fallback "Well, they're just stories to live by" in which case, none of it has to be followed to the letter.
