November Fan Art Submissions
Every month in The Gallery, we have a new thread for people to submit their own Bungie fan art. You’ll need to link your submission in that thread and at the end of the month we will gather the top submissions, host them and post them in a top story with all due credits. Yes, you will get mad street credz.
The guidelines are pretty standard. No limitations on size (we’ll host the original file, but we will likely shrink it to 350px wide in order to display it properly on our page). Content... no pr0nz. I don’t care if it’s Bungie related, we’re not hosting pr0nz. Other generally unacceptable items include: gratuitous gore, copyright infringement and/or using others’ work without permission. Outside of that, anything goes. You can submit a creation in paint that took you 2 seconds, but we’re not going to feature it on the site (unless you’re Frankie). We’ll be featuring the best of a particular batch. We’re not limiting ourselves to a certain amount of submissions per posting, if a piece should be featured then it will be.
You should really only submit new art. If you've created art in the past, please don't submit it. I know there's a lot, LOT of good stuff out there already, that's why we're doing this. But we can't have older pieces submitted or we could go on forever like that. Please only submit new works. We're not asking for exclusivity either. Go ahead and post them to all the usual blog, forum or the HBO Misc Art secion as you please.
ONLY SUBMIT YOUR OWN WORK. Why would you submit someone else's work? It's their work, they can submit it.
[b]New stuff for November:[/b] In your post you must have A) the title of your piece, B) the name you'd like to appear with the piece.

This is a quote by UltimaFire. I apparently don't know how to use the forums yet, so bear with my Newbage (is that an acceptable use of the word newb? Should newb be capitalized? Why can't I find newb in a Webster dictionary?) "That is an excellent model. I myself am only getting into 3D modeling as part of a course, so i can safely look up to this image. I'm using max at the moment. What program did you use for that? Good stuff in anyways. Maybe for next Novembers one i can have a model this good to submit. For now I'll photoshop. Soon...." I too use the Max. I love the program (probably because I learned it before using Maya with any depth). A few things to consider: A model is never done until it's textured (and lit if it's not for a game engine). You should probably spend about as much time texturing something as you spend modeling it (which I didn't do in this case, and I rarely do in other cases because I'm lazy and don't have a Wacom tablet). Your modeling skills will rarely, if ever, surpass your drawing skills, so draw no less than a tenth of the time you model, and that's bare minimum. Keep going for your dreams though, even if you're unemployed for a long LONG time post graduation. You will never be happy with the job that you SETTLE for, especially if you think you had a chance to hit it big. That said, there are some great pieces of work here, Kudos to all who had the guts to put your (He)art (and soul) online to share with the community. I'm excited to see who Bungie picks to be the best of the month (Yesterday was my birthday, so they have to pick me for one, right?) [Edited on 11/12/2006]

nice, check these two out. Just did them, and the one done on the computer was all done in microsoft word, yeah, it took me a long time. The hand drawn one looks better in person, my scanner is crap. Yeah, Super Scuply is the industry standard. And that Hunter is pretty tiny. I also started a Master Chief "toy" sculpt but only got as far as the legs. I figured Joyride was going to do a good job since they're "professionals" but boy was I wrong. I could've made a game accurate toy and I'm not even making a living doing this kind of work.. I mean, how can a company work with bungie, having all kinds of available reference and still make a toy that looks so strange?

On another note, to all of you: If your scan is messed up, then you should really fix it and/or get a better scan unless you just want to share it in general. I have a Wacom tablet that I used to draw in Photoshop with, so yes, technically by hand. I used to have a profile here, but it got deleted I think, so I made a new one to submit the art.
