If BUNGiE wasn't planning on revealing anything yet what gave IGN the right to post leaked images? Is there not a law or something to stop that kind of thing?
What the hell BUNGiE? Kick their asses!
Also could they if they wanted to?
-
I think it was posted on Bnet first..? Not sure, but either way seems like they were planning to be ready for an announcement, but had last minute changes that cancelled it.
-
Maybe not sue IGN because as far as I know they shouldn't be under NDA. The person who gave the images to IGN could definitely be sued, he was more than likely under NDA when bungie gave him the images.
-
I'm happy they showed it, getting me excited a little early.
-
IGN has every right to publish images people give them. It's the person who leaked the pictures they should be suing.
-
I do not think this is our concern.
-
It's not a big deal; all is well.
-
I like to think Bungie is pretty lenient when it comes to copyright stuff. Because really there is no need to get angry over stuff like that and it only hurts good people.
-
Why sue? A lot of the Bungie community likes IGN, I know I do. Also IGN is internet based, suing the internet just creates hate.

I am pretty sure this was supposed to happen...

The relationship between game press and developers is an interesting one, isn't it? Each depends on each other and hopes that there is a mutual amount of trust and understanding. The press wants access and information (on terms that are favorable to them and their audience) and the developer wants coverage (on their timeline and hopefully favorable). Neither wants to burn any bridges or completely alienate the other, but both have their own priorities and agendas. I suspect that this may be one of those moments where one party says "sorry dude, we'll try to make sure that this doesn't happen again, don't be too mad at us and forget to keep us on your list (here's some jerky)" and the other is "sheesh, can you at least try to work with us here, we want to be helpful, but you gotta understand our position (thanks for the jerky, send more soon)".

As far as I know, IGN didn't create the leak, it was brought to them from another source. Besides, any news is good news. Notice how everyone is all abuzz about Destiny now? Bungie has hype for a game they've said nothing about. I'd say IGN did them a huge favor.

"Someone talked" FINISH HIM
Posted by: spartain ken 15 Or IGN can give them a good review for free *wink, wink
Pffft. For an ongoing supply of jerky, I would let a press outlet say just about anything about me.

I still believe Bungie intentionally leaked the images, to start the hype train. It basically happens with every game now.

This. So many times this.
Posted by: RighteousTyrant
Posted by: Make117 IGN has every right to publish images people give them. For IGN the concept art's state of being for Destiny being unconfirmed was a safe reason to post the images. Everything was speculative.
-
IGN bought info from an informant. The informant broke an NDA (in all likelihood) and gave away things that weren't theirs to give away; IGN broke nothing. ©
Posted by: Quantam I still believe Bungie intentionally leaked the images, to start the hype train. It basically happens with every game now.
I wouldn't be surprised. Do we know anything about this mystery source who obtained a few pieces of high-quality concept art before the game was even officially announced? A beta tester leaking some details about Skyrim DLC a week before release is one thing...this is quite another. I have a feeling this site is going to become very busy in the coming weeks. I look forward to it.

A few images and a small backstory. IGN didn't straight up announce Destiny prematurely. I think unless a serious breach such as leaked plot elements, early gameplay footage, ect would result in any type of serious action.
-
Bungie can't sue IGN because as a media outlet, IGN is protected by the First Amendment. Bungie could sue whoever leaked the images. But since the images are most certainly "newsworthy" and they represent a "legitimate public interest", they can be published.

I think that Bungie released these images to get the hype ball rolling. If it is a part of their marketing plan, then they did an awesome job at drumming up the community.
