What are the Flood's thoughts on self abuse? This can include any self-destructive behaviour, such as cutting, burning, vomiting, starving, etc.
Just curious as to what others think.

Fine in moderation. Unfit for the mentally and emotionally unstable. [Edited on 11.19.2012 9:13 PM PST]

Not fine at all. People who do it are sick and need to turn their life around.
-
I believe talking about your problems or venting about them is a much more effective way to deal with them, instead of hurting yourself. [Edited on 11.19.2012 9:14 PM PST]

I don't fully understand the user's motives, but I do believe that their feelings do partially justify their actions. However, if they actually sat down and thout about their cutting, burning, etc, there is not quite a rational that supports acting that way.
-
Burning? Never heard of any one doing that before. And I find people that do that are mentally -blam!- up.
-
People who do it always have some kind of emotional problem they need to work out. People shouldn't make fun of them though, pretty dick move.
-
Pathetic. Go exercise instead, emos.
-
It's not okay?

Okay, what is so inherently evil about, say, cutting yourself?
Posted by: SGT Rhino 76 I believe talking about your problems or venting about them is a much more effective way to deal with them, instead of hurting yourself.
I have to agree with you here. Though I find that, while it is more effective, people aren't always around to talk to.

It's for losers who dont even lift.

The worst I could see from it is a bit of scarring, unless you're one of those morons that takes it too far and causes severe injury. Or if they're just unstable, which like I said, are unfit to do such things in the first place.

It's difficult to understand the appeal of it because I've never done it.
Posted by: spirit of sand People who do it always have some kind of emotional problem they need to work out. People shouldn't make fun of them though, pretty dick move.
Yeah, I have to say that some emotional problem, like losing a loved one, is the most common reason for hurting oneself. And you're right, people shouldn't harass them, as they have no idea as to what kind of emotional turmoil they are going through.

Care to elaborate?
Well, it's simple. I used to cut for the enjoyment of the pain, which is fine. I never did it deep or consistently enough to cause any serious injuries that could endanger my life, I was always sanitary with the wounds and the knives i'd use, and I always gave myself enough time to heal properly. End result, I was never in real danger, and I had another small recreational activity for when I felt like doing it. [Edited on 11.19.2012 9:24 PM PST]

Masochism, masochism everywhere.
-
i dunno, some people feel like cutting themselves eases their internal pain? Or are masochists? Or are just plain trying to kill themselves? Ive never gotten it.. i suppose its something you would only understand if you were in the same position. [Edited on 11.19.2012 9:25 PM PST]
Posted by: petitminou It's difficult to understand the appeal of it because I've never done it.
Perfectly understandable. Maybe my own little anecdote can serve to give you some understanding behind the mentality. I cut myself, a lot, because of guilt involving the loss of someone I loved. It was entirely my fault and completely preventable. Instead of turning my anger outwards towards other people, I hurt myself. Hope that gives you some insight.

I pretty much do the same thing, except more as punishment than anything. Helps ease the burden of guilt, I find.

People who do it for emotional reasons are more likely to accidentally take it too far if they're having a bad day or something.

Okay, what is so inherently evil about, say, cutting yourself?
You mean, aside from that it's a psychologically terrible solution to your problems? Open wounds can get infected, starving yourself(as OP listed) is terrible for your health, people can accidentally(or purposefully) cut too far or too deep, etc are all potential problems that come from self harm. There are better ways, and people should turn to those solutions instead.
