You're too old to be here, opinions?

So I recently had some thread posts and PM's with some younger members about being too old to be on this site. Personally I think the demographic for Halo is older than teenager but I'd like to hear from the community about age on B.net? Also for reference I am 36 and here's some recent gamer age statistics from Australia -
Average age for an Australian gamer is now 32... Read more
[Edited on 09.19.2012 11:48 PM PDT]

 • I'm 20 almost 21. I fully intend to hang around here as long as Bungie is making decent games or until I die.

 • I still watch cartoons and play video games. So long as that flies, I think I am safe. [Edited on 09.25.2012 5:23 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: Doctor Swag Yeah, you're way too old to be here. Anyone above 21 who's on here needs to reevaluate how they spend their time.
Maybe your parent(s) should reevaluate yours. If it weren't for us older people blowing quarters and tokens in the late 70's and through the 80's like it was our jobs,... buying every new console as they became available, there wouldn't likely be any Bungie or B.net let alone all the games you know of today. You're welcome! So we're to old to be on here again why?

Anyone above 21 who's on here needs to reevaluate how they spend their time.
Funny thing is I have a family (2 kids), own my family company with my brother (web development & hosting), own my house/cars and have friends of my own as well as family friends for my kids. I find time to vacation, work, spend time with my kids, do my gardening, nights out to local sports/mates and still I game most nights of the week. Then again I usually only sleep 5-6 hours per night but I've always been like that. Perhaps you need to re-evaluate your post :) As long as players/poster of any age aren't addicted and ignore other parts of their life why would an age limit be valid?

 •
Posted by: abDawg64 This thread really came at a good time. Let's just say that I recently crossed 40 and leave it at that. I was actually starting to feel a little self consience about still coming to this site and these threads. Still gaming strong...
Sure there is some social stigma occasionally but overall things have changed so chest out and be proud to be a gamer. I know my 3 year old son already loves that I play his games with him. I see it just like outdoor sports, you get involved and they respond. Only trouble is as he gets older I'll not let him win, he'll have to earn it :)

"Mature" games actually just throw in as much immature language and gore they can fit on the screen, thus lowering the bar of expectation for the gaming community as a whole as well as the public perception of said community. These aren't necessarily my thoughts on gamers/gaming (except for the part about M rates titles).
As a 38 yr old, I recognize what you're saying. Although I personally have no problem with playing games (Borderlands 2 is my new favorite), I still pause a second when sharing that information with friends and family that aren't gamers. Nobody wants to open up about something their passionate about and feel ridiculed by their peers. I'm sure this is the case with all sorts of hobbies, not just gaming.
I never feel ashamed about talking about my games, I've been doing it since school. In 6th grade we had career decisions, and my goal (which i didn't stick to, at the time) was working for Nintendo. People knew me as the video game kid, but as a jock, I shared a good group of friends they all gamed we shared stories of our accomplishments of current games like secret of evermore. I was just the only one that geared my reports and papers towards games. and had a sick addiction with Link's Master Sword. I always thought I was far more addicted to video games than anyone, but the truth was I was just a piece in a huge puzzle and the older people should be sporting their vid stuff so younger gens don't feel ashamed to do so. another sensless rant :S

 • There is no such thing as being too old to find pleasure in a video game. The ideas of the games come from grown men and women. They sell us the games. Elders distribute it, and market and control it. Video games are geared towards older people. It's a massive misconception video games were ever intended for youth! I may only be 22, but after roughly 15 years of gaming, I can't see myself dismissing video games from my life.

 •
Posted by: Spurius All mythics are above the age of 20. [assumption, of course]
Definitely very false, when I was mythic I was 17-18 (19 now). If anything I feel too old just because of the way the rest of the forum acts, specifically the Flood because that's the only forum I frequent here. Honestly, most of the topics and comments are immature and just not funny. A lot of the people there can be real jerks, and just indecent towards each other for no real reason. It's like just because they can be jerks means they will, even though any person knows what they're doing is stupid, and that it takes zero extra effort to just be nice to each other. And I know I pretty much just described the internet, but I'm on the internet just as much as every 19 y/o college guy, and it honestly seems so much worse on the Flood. There was once a time when I would have been extremely bummed if the Flood closed. Now I want it to, if just to free the good people there from dealing with the asshats.
