Ok what happened?

We know the covenant is somewhat split at the end of halo 2 but what happened to the grunts who were on the side of the elites were the grunts split between brute and elite supporters. Could someone help with this because it's always confused me. Thanks in advance.

 •
Posted by: Sliding Ghost It wouldn't have been so hard for Bungie to throw in a couple of Spec Ops Grunts on Floodgate. Spec Ops Elites got new armor. Why couldn't Grunts receive the same? Funny thing is that Ultra Grunts were the most fervent Grunt rank remaining loyal to the Loyalist cause yet they never appear in H3. It's actually Spec Ops Grunts that make prominent appearance in H3 yet they would have been more loyal to the Elites since they were placed in more dangerous situations with their leaders. When Rtas Vadum told Arby "But these are my Elites. Their lives matter to me", did he merely refer to his Elites? I think he was referring to the entire team that had assembled there! Basically, the suggestion that allied Grunts would have caused confusion is bs. The frequency of enemy Spec Ops Grunts in H3 is also bs.
I agree it wouldnt be too hard to give the grunts a spot as allies in halo 3. If it was confusing they could give them different colors to be different then the enemies.

 • The majority of grunts and hunters sided with the elites, but they weren't shown in Halo 3 in case they confused people. In Halo 3 you see the minorites who stayed with the Covenant. The grunts who sided with the brutes did so out of fear, and the hunters were apparently threatened with the destruction of their home planet, so they had to stay.
