Should sex education be mandatory?

Title, and should it include education of contraception? I say yes to both things. Having sex safely is a basic part of human health, and so should be taught.

 •
Posted by: Fat Man 3000
Posted by: Forgotten Troll Who's to say that? Parents may not want their children to know about stuff like that until they're 18, and they have every right to do that.
And the children/teenagers have the right to know how to have sex safely. They're going to have sex, regardless of education (as proven by the fact that states with abstinence education have higher teen pregnancy rate) so why not get them to have it safely?
They have no such right. No matter what you say about "they're going to have it anyway", they are children of parents. Parents who make the choice of whether or not to have them educated in that regard.

 • For women, yes. Mainly so they don't get taken advantage of.

 • It should be the parents decision.

 •
Posted by: Capt Twist I say: NO. Where's the adventure? The fear? The Social Darwinism? I say no, it's survival of the fittest.
I fear the inverse. The reasonable folks have 2 kids in their mid 30s after both parents have a successful career, while the teens have 6 by the time their old classmates leave college. Start with populations of 50:50. One generation: Teen preggers have new 150 people, total 200. Reasonables have 50 new people, total 100. Scrap the old generation, continue. 3rd gen: 1350:50 Eeeek! Outnumbered by 27 to 1! Hence the flaws in much of society. In a vote, a pregger would win by a landslide. Having more children is like a ticket to more power. It's a self-toppling system.

 • My Primary started to teach us when we were about 10, but my in my Secondary the only thing we were told was "that a boy might act different to a girl if they are alone. Bring a condom". That and that your hands get bigger.

 • Yes, since nowadays most parents fail at teaching their child such.

 • Yes. In doing so, we teach males not to get females pregnant unless they want a child, and we teach females to allow themselves to get pregnent for the same reason. This helps control the spread of population.

 •
Posted by: Sh1n1ng Wolf Since sex education shouldn't be mandatory, parents shouldn't take ten minutes to talk their children on how to prevent accidental pregnancy and STD transmission, either.
Parents are unreliable and may teach poorly it's better to have a proper lesson on it in school

 • Sex education needs to be reformed here before the decision to make it mandatory is even considered. While we were taught of safe sex and contraception, abstinence was emphasized more than anything else -- almost to the point that it interfered with other topics.

 • It shouldn't be mandatory, but it should be an elective in all schools. And of course it should include contraception education.

 • Of course not. Children should be spreading STDs like wildfire and having 5+ children like in colonial Murica. In fact, children should not use condoms, birth control or abortions. Everyone knows teenagers don't have libitos, are too stupid to experience sex properly and will wait until they're married. Also, every family should have kids. AMIRITE?!?!?!
