Mail Call! Answer the letters Bungie wrote to you.

The names of the brave developers who wrote you these letters have been withheld. All will be revealed later. You will all see each other's answers. We need to leave something to mystery. For now, answer these questions. You don't have to answer all of them. In fact, I would recommend that you do not. Choose the queries that speak to you the most - the ones for which you have the best answers. This is not a test, although you should quote the questions that you are answering (please don't make me wonder how to match your words with ours). You may reply to this thread once! Let's open the Sack... What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend? When you aren't playing Halo or dreaming about what we're concocting, what do you do for fun? What was your 2011 game of the year? What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why? Has playing a game narrative (story, characters, etc.) ever caused you to cry? Why you gotta be like that? Choose one. Explain your choice. Kirk or Picard? And why? Reach deep now. Why do you play games? Favorite Pen & Paper RPG, and why? What was your first game system, and what was your favorite game on that system? If we built the stadium, would you enter a real world Grifball tournament? In your opinion, what's the best video game system of all time? Who is your best and worst villain? Can you sing the theme to Sea Hunt without cheating on the Intertubes? (upload video proof - link it here) What was your favorite non-Halo Bungie game, and why?

 •
Posted by: DeeJ What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend?
I've been reading the Star Wars New Jedi Order series in order to prepare for the final book in a later series. It's a long series that is infamous for killing off Chewbacca in the very first book. This really sets the tone early on showing how serious the events are that are taking place. I recommend it.
What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why?
Darth Malak revealing your true identity as Darth Revan in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. After many hours being totally immersed in the game and story and devoting my character to the light side, it came as a shock to be unveiled as a former evil doer. Not to mention the whole cutscene/flashback that followed was super cool.

 • What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend? "The Brilliant Disaster." It is about the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis. It reads like a thriller, but can get boring at times. What was your 2011 game of the year? To be honest, Battlefield 3. The campaign was fun (but lacked a strong story), the multiplayer is addictive, and co-op is fun as well. I love the realism factor, too. It would have been Skyrim, but it go boring after a while, same with Revelations. What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why? The Flood. It was the best twist ever; who would of thought that they would encounter something like that in a game about fighting aliens? It was one of the best twists ever. Has playing a game narrative (story, characters, etc.) ever caused you to cry? I sniffled when it was Johnson's time to go. Why you gotta be like that? Because the numbers told me to! Choose one. Explain your choice. [Image Removed] Well, obviously the Nightquil. It'll help me sleep. Kirk or Picard? And why? Zapp Brannigan because I don't watch Star Trek. Favorite Pen & Paper RPG, and why? Monopoly. I love being a rich entrepreneur. If we built the stadium, would you enter a real world Grifball tournament? Well, if it is non-lethal then yes. What was your favorite non-Halo Bungie game, and why? Marathon. I'm thinking about trying Myth soon and whatever games you make in the future.

 • When you aren't playing Halo or dreaming about what we're concocting, what do you do for fun? Play my Bagpipes, or Saxophone. Maybe play some MTG. Think about my girl. Listen to various music. Chat with friends in Britain, maybe do some RP with them? Depends on my mood. And, be on B.net, of course. --- What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why? Halo 2, Don't make a girl a promise, you know you can't keep... I've always loved that, it had so much emotion... --- Why you gotta be like that? Oh, I'm sorry. Is me being me offensive, or something? I'll try more to cater to your needs. /sarcasm --- Reach deep now. Why do you play games? Because the graphics in real life hurt my eyes. --- What was your first game system, and what was your favorite game on that system? Xbox, Halo 2. I loved Halo 2. --- If we built the stadium, would you enter a real world Grifball tournament? That doesn't sound legal... And sounds like it would hurt. A lot. I'll pass. •
Posted by: DeeJ What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend?
Any of the books series and one-offs by Matthew Reilly; most prominently the series involving Shane 'Scarecrow' Scofield. Action packed with a good storyline.
When you aren't playing Halo or dreaming about what we're concocting, what do you do for fun?
Usually playing soccer with my University buds at the UNSW village green.
What was your favorite non-Halo Bungie game, and why?
Have always loved Half-Life ever since its release in 1998. I love puzzles being incorporated with an FPS; adds a certain spin to certain encounters and getting through certain areas. [Edited on 05.09.2012 3:47 PM PDT]

 • Let's face it, Pickard over Kirk any day. Bill Shatner is epic, but Patrick Stewart is Patrick Stewart. With that much baldness, it's impossible for him not to be badass. Pickard has a much more commanding presence, where as Kirk's presence isn't entirely commanding. And that's all I can think of from the top of my head.

 •
What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend?
Well I recently got back into some John Steinbeck, so you all should really check out some of his works, though I doubt many of you haven't read of those novels. Beowulf is always fun to fall back on, though a new personal favorite is The Fountain Head by Ayn Rand is really fun, and would make playing Bioshock for the story really interesting. If you haven't already, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "series" is really an astonishingly fun read, and I'd be happy to loan my copy if anyone wants to borrow it.
What was your 2011 game of the year?
Close tie between Battlefield 3 and Portal 2. It would probably go to Battlefield 3 because I have spent so much more time on it, but I can't commit to that answer because I had so much more fun with Portal 2.
What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why?
Call of Duty 4, when you are killed by the nuke. I think something about actually dying in a game was so stunningly new to me, and the story behind my death was so chaotic and real, it has always struck me as a well placed and well timed event. This was topped by Red Dead's death scene, but CoD4 did it first, so I have give it credit.
Has playing a game narrative (story, characters, etc.) ever caused you to cry?
During Mass Effect 3, there is a moment when you can just hang out and relax with Garrus. I don't know why, but the camaraderie of that moment reminded me of how close I am with my friends in real life. The development of our friendship over the three games was finally enjoyed in these few moments, and I welled up with a single man tear.
Choose one. Explain your choice.
Red. To live in ignorance is not to live, even if the truth is more than I could have ever expected. By letting myself know what is real, I will truly live my life, no matter how risky it ends up; dying would be more real this way, and there can be no regrets when you own your life away from oppression.
Reach deep now. Why do you play games?
The ability to submerge myself in a completely different universe is so painstakingly fun, so amazingly thrilling that I will always clammier for more. Living life in the shoes of Master Chief made me feel invincible and important, running the streets as Faith in Mirrors edge made my heart race with terror. Popping heads in Gears of War satisfied my competitive longings, and winning a game in Call of Duty 4 quelled my anger (or sometimes that game fueled it.) Games are a part of my life, and it is wonderful game companies like Bungie that make me enjoy playing more and more every time.
What was your first game system, and what was your favorite game on that system?
N64, with Mario 64 being my favorite. I joined the gaming world a little later on than most people.
In your opinion, what's the best video game system of all time?
PC, even if I'm a console gamer for life. The truth is that consoles can't compete with PCs. It's just not possible.
What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why?
The thing that comes to mind is in Halo 2 when Chief leaves Cortana on High Charity. •
Posted by: Deej In your opinion, what's the best video game system of all time?
Best game system of all time was the Dreamcast. Reason? Simple. Phantasy Star Online. One of the first games with online multiplayer (over dial-up meh) but also one of the first RPG's I have ever played. The gameplay was awesome and the teamwork needed was insane. I think I dumped 200 hours in that game with my friends when I was younger just getting item drops and perfecting my armor ratings. Man I miss that game.

 •
What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why?
When i was a young lad i played a new game call halo, being young and not very good at video games at the time it took me ages beat the game. I spent countless hours just wondering around the second mission when you first land on halo checking behind every rock and tree. The most memorable moment was the mission when you first meat the flood (the library). When i first whent into the library i was very scared of these new zombie like things know as the flood. Around every corner there would be blood splattered all over and sounds of distress. Witch kept me engaged in the game after beeting it i got addicted to video games.... Thanks bungie for providing this experience.
Choose one. Explain your choice.
I would take both to see what kind of crazy -blam!- happened.
NO Sea Hunt is a VERY, VERY, VERY old show about a Scuba diver who goes on various adventures from helping a pilot trapped in a Jet plane 50 feet underwater to collecting samples of Marine plants in a remote coral reef. I like watching it as I am really into scuba diving.

 • Red pill or blue pill I would take the red pill in any is situation as I would rather learn the hard truth then go on believing something that is not true.

 •
What good books (besides the Halo novels) have you been reading lately that you would recommend?
Just re-read Peter F.Hamilton's 'Night's Dawn Trilogy'. Would highly recommend it.
When you aren't playing Halo or dreaming about what we're concocting, what do you do for fun?
Isn't playing Halo & dreaming of Bungie concoctions enough fun?
What was your 2011 game of the year?
Portal 2 & Skyrim were close seconds but Deus Ex:Human Revolution takes Game of the Year for me.
What's your most memorable story moment from any game you've played, ever, and why?
###
Has playing a game narrative (story, characters, etc.) ever caused you to cry?
Nope. Guess I'm heartless.
Why you gotta be like that?
What's it to you?
Choose one. Explain your choice.
Red pill. Got to know how deep that rabbit hole goes.
Kirk or Picard? And why?
###
Reach deep now. Why do you play games?
Always played games & sports. Not sure what else I'd do with my spare time if I didn't do them. (The Lady of the House probably has a list of suggestions though.)
Favorite Pen & Paper RPG, and why?
Dungeons & Dragons. Hours would fly by. A great game to play with friends & totally absorbing. In answer to Marty's questions. I can't sing a thing, let alone something called 'Sea Hunt.'
What was your favorite non-Halo Bungie game, and why?
###
