No, this ain't a fan fic.
The sequel to Glasslands, the second installment to Karen Traviss' post war trilogy (Which now appears to be called the "Kilo-5 trilogy" on here) is set to be released on October 2nd. Source.
Tor Books has just announced the title and release date for the second novel in the Karen Traviss's "Kilo-Five Trilogy" of Halo books, the follow-up to last October's Halo: Glasslands. Halo: The Thursday War will release on October 2, 2012.
Halo: The Thursday War picks up immediately where Halo: Glasslands left off, with forces on Earth and among the Covenant threatening a peace that is precarious at best. With a splinter group among the Sangheili pushing for war, some human colonies rebel against earth authority; and as ONI policy continues to shift with the volatile situation in space, the discovery of a trove of Forerunner technology on Onyx provokes leaders on Earth to seek uses for it in the conflict. For the fight is far from over....
"I wanted to focus on what it feels like to operate in a fragile ceasefire that's turning into a mass of small, unpredictable wars where the enemy is much harder to spot and define," says author Karen Traviss. "It's not about big set piece space battles, superheroes, and hardware; this is a messy conflict seen at close quarters by real people with their own problems, whether those people are human, alien, or artificial intelligences."
Traviss, whose first foray into the Halo Universe came with the short story "Human Weakness" in fall 2009's New York Times bestselling "Halo: Evolutions" anthology, launched her new trilogy last fall with the acclaimed bestseller Halo: Glasslands. A veteran author who has penned number one bestselling novels in the Star Wars universe, bestselling novels for the Gears of War franchise (she most recently served as lead game writer for Gears of War 3), as well as her own science fiction series "The Wess'Har Wars."
"From the very first page, The Thursday War propels you into a universe on the brink of chaos," says Frank O'Connor, Franchise Development Director, 343 Industries. "It will immerse you immediately and enthrallingly into the events and circumstances that will come to define the state of the Halo universe in Halo 4. I can't wait for fans and newcomers alike to experience the sequel to Glasslands."
Wow, the plot sounds awful.
-
Despite my mixed view of Glasslands, I do feel somewhat that Traviss's plan to concentrate on a more grey-area view of the post-war universe could be pretty intriguing and vital to future Halo works. Although the book title is, as of the moment, completely odd to me. Seems somewhat off-key for a full length Halo novel.

Bring back Nylund for gods sake!
-
Interesting. Though no details given, though bet some things will be defined in this story. No comment though got to say glasslands was very mixed. I loved it yet hated it. Got to say where this goes.
-
I liked Glasslands for the most part. So I'll probably pick this one up too but that name is just awful. From Halo: Glasslands to Halo: The Thursday War. Just awful awful naming.

How do you go from "Glasslands" (which is a title that is actually relevant to the series) to "The Thursday War?" /Were's my third Forerunner book damn it?! And I'm calling bull -blam!- on this Kilo5 trilogy thing. [Edited on 03.16.2012 12:31 PM PDT]

I don't expect much from this novel; just like its predecessor, just more philistine tripe. Although, the "Kilo-Five" name is the least of my issues here, to be honest. I am more concerned with the fact that this nonsense forms the backdrop for Halo 4. I remember when Halo used to be as inspirational as Mass Effect. *sighs*

At least the Forerunner Trilogy is full of interesting concepts that twist the Halo universe on its head (in a positive way).
No, this ain't a fan fic.
... Really, Anton? Are you sure about that? :P [Edited on 03.16.2012 1:09 PM PDT]

These are the worst names in the haloverse and somebody really needs to work with her on the novel to explain the forerunner elements that she will write without understanding. Such has the entire dyson sphere not having an effect on real space and engulfing the solar system. Not to mention the humans must have a forerunner drive if they are making human based forerunner drives. Bah, out with her.
Bah, out with her.
Were it so easy

This leads me to believe that the release date for Halo 4 will probably be sometime in November. It is worth noting that Frankie has stated that the second Karen Traviss book will come out before Halo 4 (and the last Forerunner Saga novel after Halo 4). So, expect a late October - November release. As for the book itself...I haven't read Glasslands and don't plan on reading this for obvious reasons if my curiosity doesn't get the best of me. Hopefully this trilogy won't have that big of an influence on the lore/new trilogy. [Edited on 03.16.2012 1:30 PM PDT]

Seal, if the game comes out in december it still fits what was said.

Excellent. I really like the title "The Thursday War." The idea of tons of little conflicts to explain the scenarios of Halo 4 is pretty good in my opinion. The realism expressed in her books is refreshing. I already am looking forward to it.

The reclaimer trilogy is based of the forerunner saga not this Karen Drama Ish

They announced this sooner then i expected. Can't wait for this one :) [Edited on 03.16.2012 2:24 PM PDT]

December would be a wise time to release Halo 4. Since it's the prelude to Christmas, people will be spending more time shopping for gifts and the sales of games typically increases around the winter period because people spend more time indoors - not to mention that other Tiple-A titles will have already been released so Halo 4 will face relatively minimal competition. Common sense, my dear fellows.

But, Halo has come out in September in the past and Call of Duty comes out around November/October. It doesn't seem like many games come out that close to Christmas. Even though it comes out a month before, most people still by it then for Christmas.

I really hope halo 4 does better against cod than anniversary and reach did the last 2 years because i'm sick and tired of cod fans going on and on about how much greater cod is than halo. [Edited on 03.16.2012 3:18 PM PDT]

Wait a minute..... So this is all a push for Forerunner tech found on Onyx. Yet Onyx got hyper nuked in to oblivion and all the Sentinels that made that planet up dispersed.
-
So...is there supposed to be excitement in this?
