Undercover Cops Flirted With Students to Trick Them Into Selling Pot

http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/789519/sick%3A_young%2C_undercover_cops_flirted_with_students_to_trick_them_into_selling_pot/
Last year in three high schools in Florida, several undercover police officers posed as students. The undercover cops went to classes, became Facebook friends and flirted with the other students. One 18-year-old honor student named Justin fell in love with an attractive 25-year-old undercover cop after spending weeks sharing stories about their lives, texting and flirting with each other. One day she asked Justin if he smoked pot. Even though he didn't smoke marijuana, the love-struck teen promised to help find some for her. Every couple of days she would text him asking if he had the marijuana. Finally, Justin was able to get it to her. She tried to give him $25 for the marijuana and he said he didn't want the money -- he got it for her as a present. A short while later, the police did a big sweep and arrest 31 students -- including Justin. Almost all were charged with selling a small amount of marijuana to the undercover cops. Now Justin has a felony hanging over his head.
Wow. First of all, I feel terrible for that Justin kid. And this is really stupid. -blam!- tha police comin straight from the undergroud.

  •
Posted by: Oathbreaker Am I the only one that sees nothing wrong with this?
It's sad you have no regard for freedoms and don't care when the police do illegal acts. What a shame.

You just got an innocent kid to do something stupid for someone he liked and trusted, and was then quickly betrayed.

Betrayal after gaining a substantial amount of trust is pure evil in my eyes.

  •
Posted by: culexus A bit underhanded on the Police's part but if he was willing to obtain and sell drugs for the attention of someone...
The dude didn't sell it to the officer. He gave it to her. There was no exchange of money.

A bit underhanded on the Police's part but if he was willing to obtain and sell drugs for the attention of someone... He can't be that smart at all. He shouldn't go to jail for it but should be publicly humiliated instead, Less likely to do something retarded like buy drugs for a 'girl' if they have that to remind them.

  • Wow really? That police officer should be fired. But my life is pretty much like Justin's except it wasn't a police officer. That agent is a heartless -blam!-.

  •
Posted by: Oathbreaker Am I the only one that sees nothing wrong with this?
Yes, but it's okay. Idiots have idiotic thoughts. It's only natural. Wow. What a beautiful way to waste away. This is all they have to do, worry about petty nonviolent marijuana users/offenses? GASP! OH ON! Marijuana is so evil. It's destroying our country. Never mind the corrupt politics. Focus on young people and how we can put them in jail. BRILLIANT! [Edited on 02.28.2012 4:40 AM PST]

  •
Posted by: Method Man NYC
Posted by: AlmondJoy99 I somewhat agree with this, however I believe the police are going waaaay too far with this. It's just marijuana. Not that I agree with people who smoke it, but it's a very harmless drug compared to things like cocaine, and the fact that they would go those lengths to do this makes me... Makes me.. I have no idea how this makes me feel actually.
Marijuana is completely harmless if you don't smoke it. The carcinogens are created as a result of combustion; the substance itself does not impose any physical harm.
It is actually very healthy. I use it as an ointment for my ecsema and it really helps my aunt with the parkinson's disease. [Edited on 02.28.2012 3:51 AM PST]

  • Technically the cops made them commit the crime.

  •
Posted by: FloodPsychologis I'm pretty sure that's illegal. Baiting someone to commit a crime is illegal if I remember correctly.
Listen to your self. It's not like the suspect refused.

  • What a great thing law enforcement is spending their time on. I hope they go home and drink up! Alcohol is so much safer than pot. You can overdose on one joint!!1!!1!!one!!1

  • I heard this story on a RadioLab podcast, on a Valentines special of all crazy things. Story pissed me off pretty bad. Kids life was basically ruined over selling this twat a 20 sack. On the podcast, Justin was remarkably calm and collected about it.

  • There's no good reason to keep drugs illegal. It infringes on our freedoms, the very freedoms they have sworn to uphold, it makes drugs more potent and available to kids, it imprisons innocent people and ruins their lives, it creates crime and wastes huge sums of money. Why do law enforcement still waste their time on this? Is it their ego? Do they actually enjoy being a gang of thugs?

  • What I don't get is why they arrested Justin... they sent an ATTRACTIVE female cop to bait marijuana from him... I mean COME ON, the kid didn't smoke pot in the first place, he led them to who was dealing pot, and if your dream girl asked you to get pot for her, who wouldn't? Plus, this kid's probably paranoid as -blam!- now, all because of this. [Edited on 02.27.2012 8:16 PM PST]
