"Bungie will be discussing Destiny at GDC" in March 2013

Game Developer Conference's Website NeoGAF thread Well, it's here and not a bit to late to be expected. Bungie is registered for GDC 2013 and ready to discuss what they've been working on. Since this will be a discussion panel, it's very likely than an announcement is right around the corner. Bungie.next beta is just phase one of their reveal plan. Keep in mind that Bungie and Activision haven't given any comment, so we don't know exactly what is in store for us. Neither Bungie nor Activision had returned requests for comment at press time. Bungie writer and design director Joe Staten and art director Christopher Barrett will lead the discussion, titled "Brave New World: New Bungie IP." The talk will focus on Bungie's design process and world-building techniques, running from concept to production. Those in attendance will get a glimpse inside Bungie's new world, though it's not clear what state the game will be in during the briefing. Additionally, the event description suggests the next ten years of games from Bungie will be based in the Destiny universe.
IGN's Article
Halo creator Bungie is set to show off the “brave new world” of its new franchise at the Game Developers Conference in March. According to a panel description on GDC’s official site, Bungie writer and design director Joe Staten will present along with art director Christopher Barrett at a panel looking at the studio’s process. The panel will also discuss the fact that “after ten years of Halo, Bungie found themselves faced with a tremendous challenge: to build a whole new world, filled with even more amazing mysteries, places, creatures, and opportunities for player investment” and will cover the studio’s “world building techniques, from concept to production,” providing “key insights into Bungie's battle-tested design process.” Whether or not we’ll get our first details on Destiny’s plot and gameplay remains to be seen, but even if we don’t see those reveals at GDC we’re expecting to find out much more at E3 2013.
Official Listing on GDC's Website - Credit goes to TheGreatBrownie for the find
SPEAKER/S: Joe Staten (Bungie) and Christopher Barrett (Bungie) DAY / TIME / LOCATION: TBD TRACK / DURATION / FORMAT / AUDIENCE LEVEL: Visual Arts , Design / 60-Minute / Lecture / All GDC VAULT RECORDING: TBD DESCRIPTION: Two decades of success in the gaming industry is no small feat, but after ten years of Halo, Bungie found themselves faced with a tremendous challenge: to build a whole new world, filled with even more amazing mysteries, places, creatures, and opportunities for player investment. For the first time ever, Bungie creative directors will discuss their world building techniques, from concept to production. Attendees will walk away with key insights into Bungie's battle-tested design process. They'll get a glimpse of the brave new world that has been built, a place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold. TAKEAWAY: In a presentation filled with concept art and design case studies, attendees will learn about Bungie's world building pillars, and see how these were put to use to create Bungie's next great universe of games. INTENDED AUDIENCE: While the talk is focused on art and design collaboration, takeaways will be useful for members of all game development disciplines who are eager to improve their team's world building process. There are no prerequisites.
GDC takes place on March 25th and ends on March 29th. Whether or not they actually show gameplay doesn't matter so much to me personally. Like I said earlier, we don't know what's going to be shown. Although, seeing Bungie back in the swing of things is awesome. Let there be light.
