So, clearly, the idea is to treat the adventures of the protagonist as an ongoing serial of sorts. Which I find to be oddly unique in terms of games for iPad or mobile apps.
For the most part, games offer a free version, then a pay version for content.
I find it really interesting that this game is the first I have played for iPad where really, its the story (and of course, content) that is what will compel me to buy subsequnet chapters. It's really smart, and it really is such a great way to approach the relatively cheap (in comparison to console games) world of iPad or mobile games/apps.
It's going to be necessary, though, to make sure that story continues to be compelling and worth catching up on. The replay value of the game I'm not entire sure about so far. But that isn't to say it isn't well done and it isn't a joy to play. In fact, it makes buying subsequent chapters all that much more attractive.
Really enjoyed the first chapter.
EDIT: I do wish, though, that I could come to BNet to see my stats and so-on for this game.
Posted by: Hoo7on What bad smell are you talking about?
We have a new member ... and another person to post in this dying forum. Go experience the smell for yourself ... go visit the reach forum and experience the beauty that bungie creates. Perhaps once you have more than ODST and BFBC2 to your xbl history you will understand. Your luck not to fact the disappointment that is bungie. Microsoft managed them well for many years, and great games were produced. But bungie felt they knew better and demanded freedoms, and now we have disappointed fans and indie developers staying clear.
Posted by: CrazzySnipe55 OT: Harebrained schemes seems to have their head on correctly as far as making a game goes. They've gone about the story, design, and promotion in all the right ways and hopefully we'll see more Bungie Aerospace/Harebrained Schemes partnerships in the future.
Seem more of the partnership ... maybe not. Has not been the huge sucess that you may have suspected given the history of both parties ... but that has more to do with the bad smell around the bungie name @ the moment. Unfair ... maybe, but so but thats life. Be interesting to see if bungie get past this when [or if] the new title is released on the PS3. Already disrespected on the sony platform (because of xbox/microsoft history), plus the backlash from the halo ex-fans. Interesting marketing challenge.

I am now highly considering this game.
Posted by: stosh We do have bnet stats: http://www.bungie.net/projects/aerospace/crimson/stats/
Another interesting factor of this game is that it is a new genre of Bungie games, not just some random FPS.
Posted by: Achronos Well, you can check out other people's stats, but only if you're Facebook friends with them.
Posted by: Switchfoot4 I wouldn't mind being able to check out peoples stats on Bnet. If and online version ever gets incorporated, I wouldn't mind seeing the ability to play with people from Bnet or something like that.

What about people, like myself, who don't have or want a facebook?
Posted by: Achronos But it doesn't take a genius to guess probably development strategies for a cross-platform future. Don't worry, we're working on it. :)
Wait, would that mean the game will be available not just for the iPad then? It sucks that I can't play this game on my Android phone, heck even my iPod Touch.

So who gets to sell the personal information collected from using Facebook? Bungie (Aerospace) or Crimson?
-
So far? That the Community is not -blam!-ing about anything...yet.

Looking forward to that. And, for the record, I didn't intend this thread to be about not liking the way you have to use FaceBook to look at stats. It was much more about the things I really LIKE in the game, and what I find really compelling about it. The stats, that was actually a last minute addition to the post, and is really just a byproduct of me being used to coming to BNET to look at game stats anyway. Not a serious negative to my Crimson experience at all.

Yes, because Windows Live ID is not supported on iOS. Facebook is. Granted, the current "unconnected" experience (where your Facebook isn't part of your bnet account) isn't optimal. But it doesn't take a genius to guess probably development strategies for a cross-platform future. Don't worry, we're working on it. :)
Posted by: vikingbloodlust you have to use a facebook account to check stats?

Posted by: kkrotz Yeah, and $1.99 isn't that much(second chapter cost)
Exactly. So, like serial fiction or whatever, the lower cost makes the ongoing commitment more acceptable, rather than paying MORE money for additional content on a console game, for example. If you can get through 5 additional chapters (as long as the story entices you to do so, and the gameplay evolves in a way that keeps it interesting) 10 dollars for an ongoing story is much more appealing, I think, than 10 dollars for sporadically released content to an existing game. This seems to be at least as much about the story as it is about content, and that seems pretty novel and unique. It shouldn't be, really, when you think about it. But it is. It's really smart, and it is a much more appealing reason (to me) to continue to invest in a STORY rather than just basic content additions.
