The Halo community doesn't even know what Bungie can make as DLC?

Please make sure you read the links, as they contain greater detail than my post.
DLC = Downloadable Content The phrase is used to refer specifically to content created for video games that is released separately from the main video game release.

Disc Locked Content, is a parody word based on downloadable content, when people had discovered that content that was supposedly downloadable had in fact originated on the disc, but it was locked. Content on the disc can be unlocked by online, buying the authorization files from Live. It's up to game developers to use this conning tactic.

Posts of Interest Evil Otto, a Bungie employee, confirms armor DLC being impossible for Halo Reach. Evil Otto, a Bungie employee, confirms that armors should not be shipped in DLC maps.
Impossible to add as DLC New vehicles/weapons/objects into old/released maps - Pelican in Forge World anyone? New Armors - Arbiter perm? Hyabusa? New Armor Abilities New Colors - [insert any color] New Emblems - [insert obscenity emblem here] New Nameplates - I am Bungie cool. New Gamemodes - Something like Chess and VIP. New Firefight voices - Red vs Blue? New Skulls New Killing sprees Campaign DLC :'(

Possible to add as DLC Multiplayer maps. Firefight maps. Anything can be added to an unreleased DLC map, and any new content that comes within the DLC map, will only be exclusively for that map. Campaign maps is a possibility, depends if developers aren't lazy or too busy. Halo Reach DLC will be multiplayer centric
Q & A's
But Bungie only said that problem was with Halo 3, this is Halo Reach, they've should have sorted it out.
When Bungie made Halo Reach, it was easier to code over Halo 3. ODST is a result of Bungie's work over Halo 3's engine, and now Halo Reach is the final result of the rework on Halo 3's engine. Bungie did not change the map format/resource storage.
Bungie added snow camo vehicles to Avalanche, and a Golf Club permutation of the Gravity Hammer.
These were just permutations exclusive to the DLC map itself, it does not go in any other map.
[insert game here] can do it, so Bungie can do the same
Please note this, the development team, game engine and programming is always different, there are always pros and cons to certain game engines, we cannot compare any Halo games to a game that doesn't use the Halo engine, or it's file formats.
But I downloaded Johnson for ODST
What you really downloaded was an authorization file which unlocks the content for your console, this is how you and others are able to see, or use, it's because the content originates on the disc.
Bungie took away the shield doors from Snowbound and Epitaph, also they removed the Elephant from Sandtrap
Bungie created a set of reserved spawns in forge maps, that only "they" and modders can change. These reserved spawns cannot be changed by us in the game.
Bungie added Recon to Halo 3 :o
The Recon armor already shipped in the game, it was "locked", and your gamertag must be flagged by Bungie on Bungie.net to be unlocked.
Why can't Bungie add campaign maps?
Read this.
Can you provide proof for all of this?
No, but that doesn't mean we're telling lies, we are actually explaining to you why they can't do it, none of this can just come in a one sentence proof, so I hope you understand and read. :D Evil Otto, later confirmed it would require a new game for new armors.
* Do not post false information or mislead other forumgoers. Damn Shock, you've had your hands full in here. 42 pages of some of the most misinformed, illogical posts I have ever seen, the ignorance of which, upon reading, have caused me to spew blood violently from every orifice. Some people just don't want to accept simple logic I guess. Willful ignorance. Annoying but common unfortunately.

Posted by Evil Otto Not in a simple patch or update. Each map file in the game has all the content embedded in it. If we were to create new armor, it would either only be available in any new maps that get made after that point, or we would have to send out new map files of all the multiplayer and singleplayer maps and require about 9 GB of HD storage. This is economically not feasible.
Patches and updates do not work. Replacement of all maps required = New game.
Posted by: JonnyOThan I think the labels will be the same as for invasion slayer. This way you don't have to update any maps you've already made for invasion slayer, and the on-disc maps will still work too. If we added new labels, the maps on-disc wouldn't work unless you went into forge and added the new objects yourself.
Not really sure what this means...
Guest-358: Are there any plans to add more armor abilities down the road? BrianJd: No plans, it's not really something the game could support post-launch.
I can understand, why they couldn't add more, since AAs are stored as shared resources on the disc. • We all know this, also not everything you said is correct, plus trying to make yourself looks smart and big is just stupid and makes you look more like a twat than you already do.

 • Well that makes me less likely to play reach anymore, thanks for clearing things up. Now I am definitely buying Black Ops.

 • Not possible in DLC, I totally agree from a programmers perspective. The issue with DLC is that its optional meaning not every xbox would have the same weapons/armor/etc. The only way content like that could be added is through full game patches. Bungie only did one patch per Halo so far due to the massive costs so I doubt they will implement new content in this manner.

 • well i cant but that doesnt mean they cant add it. if you cant find one on the other side then you cant say they cant do it. they probably cant do it, i dont really care. i just think that you shouldnt say things without solid proof. thats the only thing bothering me here [Edited on 11.15.2010 7:33 AM PST]

The only exception was the Hornet, which was still classified as a Hornet, an already existing vehicle and the golf club, which was a remodel of the gravity hammer, yet still the same weapon.

 • While this is correct, one thing is wrong. Bungie CAN add new GAMEMODES, as confirmed by Sketch, with a patch.

 • This is all speculation. No one actually knows the difference between the methods used to code features in Halo 3 and the methods used to code Halo: Reach. It seems far more likely that Halo: Reach has been coded in such a way as to accept a larger variety of DLC as this is the way games companies continue to make money while working on their next project. While you raise some good points, please don;t fool the community into thinking what you have said is fact.

Burnout Paradice came out with big surf island with a 1GB download that ADDED a new island to the main play area.. So just because you think what you think doesn't make it true.

 • Holy crap, this guy speaks truth. Finally, somebody who understands... I'm also willing to bet that 90% of the people who either ask for this stuff or challenge people who claim it to be impossible do not know anything about the engine Halo runs on. However, I must admit, we don't know the full extent of the changes made to Reach's engine; I think they once said that they would be able to add new gametypes if they really wanted to or something like that. Hey, by all means, prove us wrong Bungie. Edit: You guys, Halo is not other games. Stop comparing it to other games out there, ESPECIALLY open-world ones and racing games. All games use different engines, which process things differently. Halo's engine uses a formula that isn't particularly conducive to a wide range of DLC; everything must be packaged into the map. This means every armor permutation, every emblem, every voice, etc. has to be in the map's file. Unlike, for example, the Source engine, where the game draws on a separate folder for every kind of resource and maps are independent of it. [Edited on 11.15.2010 7:45 AM PST]

How long would you wait for an answer from Bungie? I know a minority of people on this site will understand what I'm talking about.
Posted by: Mr Shock Trooper Omg this is bad. • Even though I already knew all of this I would like to point out for you who didnt understand the context of OP's post, that you can infact add new vehicles to NEW MAPS. Disc maps can never have new things added to them (unless you have a hacked xbox), so adding things would only lead to some maps having other items other maps dont. As to the "reach is different" talk, Halo has run of this tech since the old days of Halo CE. Halo CE used it, Halo 2 used it, Halo 3 used it, why wouldnt Reach? Also note that gametypes arent loaded from the maps, so I take it thats why Bungie could add new gametypes if they wanted.
