So, now that everyone and their grandma have dipped into the Crimson Doubles game mode, we have all seen it for what it is: A really fun game mode. However, the event itself is an utter farce, you can get it done in no-time at all and, as usual, the rewards are hilariously bad.
To me, this is a perfect miniature version of how Bungie does things in Destiny as a whole. They hype up "new content" which turns out to be old content with a slight twist, making people disappointed by how quickly it was over and how little they got out of it. We all know full well that the plan from their side was to do "small, free content drops more often", but this is beyond small. This is a couple of minutes of titillation and a shrug. The same goes for past events in Year 2 or, to a point, the game itself. The game modes provided are fun in and by themselves, but nowhere near enough in terms of scale. You log in, you run through it in an hour or two, you're done, you get back to business as usual (i.e. the never-ending and by now soul-eating grind).
Since we are talking PvP and the gameplay is fun, it will still be played by many. For some, the incentive to play it at all is the loot though. This is, after all, a loot based game. Problem is that out of everything this side of communication, what Bungie does worst is player rewards. The drops in Crimson Doubles are absolute garbage, the quest (yes, one) reward is crap and the emblem/shaders/whatever is personal preference at best and not-even-fun-for-two-minutes at worst. You would have thought that Bungie had learned how to do this properly by now. They obviously haven't. Not in Iron Banner - "We've fixed the Iron Banner drop rates", it proves to be around 1-3% or below depending on item dropped - not in regular PvP, not in here. While we're at it, Bungie, not in Nightfalls either. "Fewer ghosts in Nightfalls"? It immediately dropped a 293 ghost. Again.
TL;DR: Play the Crimson Doubles. It's a really fun game mode if you like PvP. Don't expect anything other than a bit of fun gameplay though. Much like you shouldn't from Destiny.
