Can I join the Cabal? Guardians seems to be nothing but thorns in their side.
They flee away from something, what that something is, we don't know, but if it scares Cabal into running you better believe I'm scared of it too.
They land on Mars, and what do they find? Vex trying to open interdimensional portals and transform the planet. Not on their watch. So they blockade every portal, and go on a non-stop Vex destroying rampage, thus preventing their invasion...
...and then we show up.
We take out their guard, poke our noses round in all their business trying to figure out what it was they were up to (shoot first, ask questions later) only to find out we've just accidentally took down the guard preventing a Vex invasion. Whoops!
So we take out the Vex, and call ourselves heroes. Yay!
Then the Dreadnaught shows up. We go through all these tactical means to try and infiltrate the hive ship at its core... But the Cabal are already there when we arrive kicking a whole lot of hive caboose, and are already set to blow the entire thing out of the sky, thus avenging the Awoken, shutting down Oryx, and preventing a system wide invasion the likes we've never seen before.
But we want loot...
So we shut down the cabal, shut down the taken, and go in the search of loot, only to realise it's hidden behind the biggest baddest boss of them all, Rngesus (lol)
So yeah, even though the Cabal are presented to us as this big bad world destroying race that needs shutting down one by one, all they've tried to do since day one is help the system, clean up its mess, and every time they've tried, we've swooped in, took them all out, finished off their fight and called it our victory.
How noble.
Become legend? I'd prefer to become Legionary.

Exploding the dreadnaught core would destroy the solar system. Also, with humanity's greater understanding of the hive, we know that a hive god must be killed in its throne world. Destroying the dreadnaught would ruin our chances in the long run of killing oryx.
