Special ammo on spawn? Here's why the update is good.

No special ammo on spawn has been around for over a year already. Yeah, it's true - the Inferno playlist. If you're like me you probably haven't put much time into this playlist. I actually played a few games of inferno control a couple of days ago, I got destroyed, but I had fun. I also learned something: I put little thought into what guns I was bringing with me. I had all the meta stuff on my hunter - I figured I'd be good? Mida? Check. TLW? Check. Nirwen's Mercy? Check. Conspiracy Theory? Check. Chaperone? Check. Thousand Yard Stare? Check. Depending on the map, I thought I would have whatever I needed.
I was wrong. so so wrong.
First map was Cathedral (That map is the woorrssttt), so I went with Mida/CT-D. It was not good. Not good at all. I think I finished 8-11? (please, some of you profile checkers - let me know) I hardly picked up secondary. And I kept losing to a Defender Titan... with Monte Carlo, and a fusion rifle? Dude got lucky, those guns suck. Second map was Memento (Meh, but definitely better than Cathedral), I thought I'd get sneaky, so I went with Nirwen's Mercy and Invective. This time it was even worse! I think I finished 9-16? (stat boys - get on that.) Invective didn't spawn ammo as quickly as I thought (at least at the beginning). And again, that Defender worked me. I think he put up like 5000 points (which is 1/3 of the total team points in Inferno Control). Using.. Monte Carlo and Ash Raven's Light! Then it hit me, all of my class set up built around Long range/short range. When I choose TLW/TYD I am playing primarily long range, with short range support. When I choose Mida/CTD I am playing short range with long range support. What's missing? THE MID RANGE. The current state of special weapons has completely excluded the mid range! I know there were tons of other posts, and great ideas on how to bring about a more balanced crucible. Was this the right choice? We'll see. But over the next month, I fully expect the 3v3 playlists to see a shift in weapon usage. I predict ARs and HRoF PRs will rise again, because of their versatility (and not necessarily time to kill). I also predict side arms will get some love, as well as NLB. The mid range is going to be a factor again - and that's a good thing. Too often our battles were fought from distance, or up close. When that happens the time to kill drastically falls, because of shotguns and snipers. Then we miss out on epic battles: bouncing around eachother, reloading, throwing grenades... Finishing the kill with a melee because both of your guys were outta ammo. All you salty snipers, don't get freaked out about this change. If you really have the ridiculous gun skill you claim it takes to consistently land precision kills at all ranges, then you will still have an edge against those "skrubs" who need to "git gud" in the mid range too! Yesterday I went and played Halo Reach on Xbox 1.
It is WAAYY more playable than the reviews made it sound, at least MM was, give it a shot
. I still had a blast! It was slower than Destiny (no sprint D:) but Halo reach has maintained its playability because of it its epic mid range combat - which rewards skilled players who can put the most bullets on the head. In Destiny's current state, the primary game is very balanced. There is no gun like year one thorn, or TLW that will dominate in all ranges. Many battles will come down to who shoots straighter, and who picked the right fight (range). I came up with list of Pros and Cons for the special ammo "nerf" in (primarily) Trials of Osiris. Most of my post is personal opinion, but I'd like feedback on the pros/cons list. Pro •Overall increased time to kill •More weapon variety •Supers will be less stoppable (Yes, that's a good thing. Do you really think you should be able to OHK an undead Demi-God throwing molten hammers or wielding lightning? C'mon....) Con •Fewer revive snipes
I see this as probably the biggest potential problem. Please, lets find a way to not reward the losing teammmmm
•Matches are played fast enough that secondary doesn't spawn •Icebreaker & Invective dominate all loadouts TL;DR: Crucible will benefit from less special ammo because there will be more primary and mid range play, and an increase in weapon variety. Let me know what you think.
