Question about Borderlands

So I'm planning on getting the Handsome Collection with TPS and BL2 and it doesn't come with BL1. I'm already planning on playing BL2 then TPS but what about BL1? Should I even get it? Is it worth it? If so then where do I fit it in? Thanks

You aren't missing much in BL1 ( it's a great game, don't get me wrong ),. but BL2 actually improved on the original. IMO, 2 is the best of the series. What other's have said is true here, you will only be missing out on backstory, especially in 1's DLC. THOUGH, if you play on PC, 1 is amazinglt moddable ( before you groan, I mean modding in terms of content ADDED to the game in the form of user-made maps, skins, enemies, etc....not modded weapons).

  • Borderlands 1 is incredibly hard to play once you've played Borderlands 2, at least that's my experience. It might be worth picking up for a quick play-through just to give the sequels more context, depending on how much you care about the plot.

    • Borderlands 1 isn't included because handsome jack isn't in borderlands. In my personal opinion I would play borderlands 2 the most because I think it's better than the pre sequel

      • I played Borderlands when it first came out and it's better than TPS, but it's definitely dated now. Borderlands 2 is the perfect sequel though, it has all of the positives of the first game without the 'Wtf was that?' Ending

I'd grab Borderlands since it's backwards compatible (and pretty cheap) and play it first. If you don't like it, you can always just go straight into Borderlands 2. It's a great improvement upon the original, but you might be a little lost at some parts in the story. Keep in mind, it will be EXTREMELY difficult to get into BL1 after experiencing BL2. TPS was also a fun, good game. It wasn't as good as BL2, but only because BL2 is that good. It improved in some ways, and fell flat in some other ways. Don't play TPS before BL2 though, because the pay off (story wise) is much better if you play through BL2 first. All amazing games, with great stories, and great humor. One of my favorite franchises of all time. Great choice picking it up.

          • What system are you on? If you're on Xbone BL1 is backwards compatible and pretty cheap these days.

            • Two is the best, by far.

            • BL1 isn't really essential to play, though you'll miss a lot of the subtle humor and references in BL2 if you haven't played the first one.

            • If you want to play one, make sure you do it before you play two. Borderlands 1 is a fine game but Borderlands 2 improved everything to such a large degree that it will be extremely difficult to go backwards.

You don't need to play the first game but if you want to it's a really good game but two is much better.

            • All three are worth playing, and 1 sets up what happens in two, but the story doesn't carry over to the point where you will be lost without playing one. If you have the cash I would recommend getting all 3. Just play 1 first, as there are several mechanics that got added into two that feel strange to play without.

Borderlands 2 greatly improved on the original, which wasn't quite as good, though showed potential. Personally, I'd give borderlands 1 a miss unless you're a real hardcore fan after playing the handsome collection. Otherwise, B1 is hardly essential

              • All three are great. BL1 ties pretty close into BL2 so if know the full game is important to you then sure. Besides it's pretty fun.
