Gimme your input on Sunsingers

Made this post because I want to hear other people's opinions on this subclass, in PvP more specifically. Personally I just think the subclass is rather naff and weak in comparison to what I could use, and I almost NEVER use sunsinger in crucible at all. I dunno why really, but it's never really appealed to me. And yet I hear many still say how powerful it is, and I just don't see it. I run towards sunsingers in crucible, not away from them. So, gimme your input on why you think it's a great subclass, or not if you're the same as me.

  • Angel of light is underrated, flame shield is a bit too strong, self res is basically the only thing anyone uses, and its supportive build is always overlooked.

  • Guaranteed to win all melee battles with their shield, their fusion grenade is a general direction free kill grenade for when u lose a gunfight, you have as much armor as a pre-nerf titan in radiant skin, their firebolt nades with a setup with no true tradeoff leaves you at 2 hp after burning for 15 seconds or something ridiculous, THEN you begin to regenerate health. (Self res is dumb in pvp) and you a have a perk on your subclass suspending you in air while aiming... WHICH IS AN EXOTIC ON THE TITAN CLASS. Just food for thought (:

Personally I absolutely love the sunsinger subclass in both pve and especially pvp. It has one of the strongest neutral games period. It might not be as fear inducing as a sunbreaker, blade dancer, or stormcallers while their respective supers are active, but a sunsinger capacity to be lethal and control engagements extends outside of radiance. If you run a high discipline built, you can almost always have grenades available. By running gift of the sun, you have 2 grenades that charge in 25 seconds each. Meaning if you toss 1, wait about 13 seconds, toss another, you'll have a charge again in 12 seconds, and then again, 13 seconds later. And two of the three options you have for grenades (fusion or firebolt) are arguably two of the strongest grenades in the game. Or you can run my personal favorite, Voidfang (grenade energy on spawn), high discipline, Viking funeral, touch of flame and firebolt. You don't have grenades up quite as often but its still rather frequently. And with this built, your grenades will burn enemies, delaying recovery and possibly even resulting in a kill. If you combine either of those builds with bonus super energy on grenade kill it also allows you to gain your super rather quickly. Then toss a weapon with grenader on and you're constantly gaining either super or grenade energy on kills. Put all that together with the highest melee range, plus strongest melee ability in the game, and you can see how strong a sunsinger can be in the right hands, before having factored in the super. Now enter radiance. First, unless you're in Trials, run radiant skin. A max armor build, with radiant skin, and an active flame shield can tank a shot from golden gun or a hit from a blade dancer and live. This defensive aspect really allows you to dominate even in a group of enemies. I've personally gone toe to toe in a melee battle with a blade dancer and won, plenty of times. While under radiance, your melee is a 1 hit kill against any enemy not under its super. And again, aside from one specific perk in the stormcallers tree, you have the highest range on this. You basically always have grenades while in radiance. You can either spam fusion grenades or have fire bolt grenades rain down around them. Either way, it's likely to result in death if you have a good hand with them. I will add that fire bolt grenades hit multiple enemies in the area and if you run touch of flame, continues to burn them, making them my preferred option. There are so many different effective builds and playstyles associated with sunsinger, you just have to find the one that works best for your playstyle. And once you do, it becomes one of the most consistent killing machines out there. Key word, consistent, it's not just a waiting game till your super is ready like other classes can be. That is why, in my opinion, sunsingers are one of the best classes in pvp.

    • Hardly use it outside of trials, when I used to do it, but I usually run Radiant Skin with Praxic Fire and firebolts or solar grenade.

    • I still fear reading a triple sunsinger team in trials during the pre game lobby.

Watch my YouTube videos. I've mained a Sunsinger since day 1. I play the class very aggressively and can still drop 50+ kills today despite the buffs/nerfs.

Sunsinger used to be the most fun to use until Bungie nerfed the recharge rate on the grenades when your super is active. Now Sunsinger is really boring to use compared to the others. Thanks Bungie for taking a lot of our fun away...
...Damn you Bungie :( Sunsinger vanilla RIP
• Came in here expecting a nerf thread and I was about to lose my shit. Do these people have no end to their complaints? I thought. But, to my surprise, it was an actual rational discussion. These things are like unicorns on the forums. But back to the case in point, in my opinion the best pvp attributes about them are the fusion grenades, which are one of the best imo, the flame shield melee, which can get you out of a bind quick, and the radiance, which can be a real clutch in modes like Trials of Osiris.

      • Like my counterparts have said the neutral game is just amazing. Run radiant skin and radiant will you're a -blam!-ing tank. The exotics are great for it and the max armor and recovery on it just makes you unbeatable. I wipe teams regularly and even in mayhem rumble I come out on top. Sunsinger is the best PvP subclass and still is even with the new supers just got to know the Sunsinger's abilities to beat them. It's definitely a tougher one to master but once you start to understand how to work with it the class is amazing. I'm talking about without super shutting hammers, blade dancers, even Stormcallers down with a bit of ease and melee. I recommend trying it and getting food you'll never want to use another subclass as a warlock again. Praise the Sun fellow brother.

      • just spec for burn firebolt grenades and use radiant skin in normal crucible with heavy machine gun, tank everything with the radiant skin and make lots of orbs by slaying bitches with your machine gun and firebolt nades of doom.

But Sunsingers grenades and melee are top notch in most other circumstances. If you want awesome Uber kills with supers you can't push against other supers that often. Sunsingers excel in their neutral game. Pushing with grenades is their cup of tea.

      • One of my favorite pvp classes. Fusion grenades are fun, especially with the double grenades option. Scorch makes you win almost every melee fight and can be the difference between life and death vs a shotgun if they move in close enough and the range is the best melee in the game. It's hard for me to melee on other classes because I continuously think I am close enough when I'm not. Self-rez can be very situational. You have to know when to use it and it can take time. In a 6v6 game mode it can be used at almost anytime. 3v3 requires a lot more caution due to the nature of the game. I mained a Hunter for the first few months I played then switched to warlock sunsinger as a main. Also in my opinion voidwalkers are meh but I know they are amazing in trained hands. Stormcallers can be very fun to use as their subclass perks are very good for groups of enemies. Kinda went everywhere on this post but wanted to be quick and thorough at the same time since I am at work.

      • Because of it's neutral game. It still has the best neutral game. Sticky Grenades are very powerful and 2 of them is even better, along with Firebolt which pre-nerf was very OP. Solar nade was okay, the 2 others are much better. Sunsinger still wins the title for the best melee in the game. Shield on hit with long range doesn't even need explaining, it's so good. So while having these great abilities you have Radiance, which ENHANCES these abilities. Grenade spamming is f*cking fun and Scorch is a 1 hit kill + shield. It's not as good as it was in y1, because the new subclasses, but it's still so good. Heart of Praxic Fire makes it even better
PRAISE THE SUN \[T]/
