Weapons evolution -ATTN BUNGIE

Bungie, up front I would like to say thank you for making this game and facilitating a continuing journey through it's universe. I have really enjoyed being part of it's evolution and I hope that it continues forth. Other folks on here may feel different about this subject; which everyone is entitled to their own opinion. For me though, the game is incredibly fun and enjoyable. Looking forward from here, as a veteran player, I would very much like to see a few thing reexamined in future releases; specifically with the weapon evolution itself. What I am talking about is how aspects of the game should continue to evolve forward. With weapons, this is especially true. For example, my AR-15 will never suddenly not shoot as far or hit a paper target with less force and although Destiny is science fiction, this same comparison should still be applied. When it comes to destiny weapons, I truly wish some real life damage physics could be applied and I think it would solve all the OP complaints. What is currently incorporated into all the current weapons is damage based on type which is a good base to start but in reality if you consider few examples below, you case see my case in point. Example 1 An M-16 in full auto vs an M-16 in 3 round burst. Same weapon, same caliber and do the same damage. Comparing this destiny, they closely match an auto rifle and a pulse rifle but in destiny, each rifle can produce far different outcomes in crucible. Example 2 12 Gauge Shotgun with pellet rounds vs 12 Gauge Shotgun with Slug rounds. Same weapons but damage and range varies dramatically and is only based on the rounds used, not the shotgun itself. Additionally, it doesn't matter if the same type of pellet round is used in any shotgun because they all shoot the same range and produce the same damage with the same given ammo used. In destiny, this is exactly opposite, each shotgun has varying ranges, impact reload speed etc. Example 3 Sniper rifles. In real life, any weapons can be a sniper rifle in the right hands. The preference though seems to be single shot slow firing bolt action rifles. Bolt action rifles are the choice because no forward velocity is lost from a automatic reward cycling bolt and they tend to be far more accurate than auto cycling type rifles. The trade of to using bolt action rifles is a slow fire rate, hence why most snipers use rifles chambered in .338 Lapua, .50 caliber, etc. These rounds cover great distance and it is this distance that makes snipers safe, not their quickness with scoping. Additionally, snipers don't just look in the scope for a quick second and pull the trigger, they do intense calculations of environmental elements because bullets drift in flight and they must account for this drift in order to hit their targets. In destiny, these weapons have become more like scout rifles with an extra damage rating. In crucible, these guns are obviously used more like a primary weapons because of faster fire rates, special perks and the ability to one shot kill. Essentially, sniping in destiny isn't sniping. Example 4 Hand Cannons. The real world example of these are revolvers and what makes them different is caliber and barrel length and obviously though, a higher caliber round, will carry more punch; but range is a different matter. Generally speaking, the longer the barrel, the more range and accuracy you have. Realistically speaking, the only difference range wise between say a .38 special with a 3 in barrel and a 6 inch barrel is about 10 to 20yards of accuracy; not map clearing devastation. Example 5 Rocket launchers. Technically speaking, in real world these things are deposable because launching the rocket itself, generally destroys the launcher. In destiny though, I can understand why this is not incorporated but I do struggle with the fact that with any launcher, the player reloads and inserts one rocket but can fire 2 or three shots depending on perks. Now I am not saying that destiny weapons should become exactly like real weapons; after all, destiny is science fiction and it is not call of duty or black ops. However, where I think the issue lie are the fact that the weapons operate so far outside of general weapons physics that they have become problematic and bungie has been in a continuing struggle with weapons balancing. Fact is, so many of the weapons types are the same but have been convoluted to a degree. Scout rifles and Sniper rifles are a good example. What really sets them apart in destiny besides damage? In actuality, compare an M-1 Garand with iron sights to an M-1 Garand with a scope and you essentially have the same weapon but used in both roles. Considering that, what makes the uses different is the scope. At close range a scope is a flat out hindrance and is hard to shoot accurately. At range, iron sights becomes harder and harder to shoot with accurately the further the target moves away. In a nutshell, I personally believe that some simple real world weapons physics should be applied here. Do I think, weapons in destiny should be made to function exactly like real ones? No; but I do feel the basics are missing and really should be brought into play. Going back to my points about weapons evolution, I definitely feel that weapons should be evolved to operate more like one would expect a gun to work and give real meaningful perks to individual weapons. Consider the final round perk, how would anyone bullet do more damage than any other? My overall suggestion here, in the grand scheme of weapons evolution is to evolve destiny past projectile based weapons. The game while being set in the future, follows the story line of initially scrounging for weapons parts after losing the war while using old technology. Would seem to me that as time goes by, and as the foundries continue to make weapons, that they would star producing more futuristic weapons as technology improve; like laser weapons for example. Perhaps, going forward and incorporating laser weapons, damage could evolve from weapon type damage to simply weapons designed to be used a particular ranges etc.
