I've played Destiny since launch. I've made the odd contact here and there. Sometimes on a rare occasion, I'll even add someone as a friend.
Well a week or so ago, my girlfriend created an account, and unfortunately for her, has what you might call a 'girly' PSN ID.
As a result, she is inundated with random friend requests, and people even start just following her around on patrol.
It's all the time.

I think I now know what it's like to be a girl in an MMO, and it doesn't seem to be too different from being the the last human alive in a zombie apocalypse.
Get a life, please...

To answer several themes occurring:
- if it doesn't happen to you personally, or you happen to be a guy and happen to have had similar experiences; congratulations. Either way, this doesn't invalidate the original post. As you can see from the plethora of confirmatory responses from female gamers, this happens a lot, and whilst it's the exception to happen regularly to guys, it's the rule for it to happen regularly to girls.
- I am not a girl gamer. I am the boyfriend of a girl gamer. Read the post before jumping in with a presumptuous comment.
- I/girls shouldn't complain because there are worse problems in the world?
Irrelevant!
This is a Destiny related problem being posted on the Destiny forum. Whether there are worse problems in the world is irrelevant in the context of this thread. If you judged every problem based on the existence of worse problems, then you'd never resolve anything, purely because the largest problem is the inexorable exploding of the solar system.
Pointing out worse problems is basically a way of saying "I don't really like this post and want to disagree, but can't think of anything sensible to say".

I like you op but the people who you refuted with your edit have sad lives and really don't understand. It's teaching a cat to read. I'd love to do it, probably be famous if I did, but it's impossible.

Edited by SpamTheDamage: 12/3/2015 3:48:58 PMThat sucks :/. I didn't know it was really that bad for girls playing multiplayer games. People shouldn't have to change or make their gaming handles in a specific way to avoid harassment. That's pretty awful. I wish people would be more respectful of others. For what it's worth, apologies to you and your girlfriend.

My sister played with my account, the next day i have 5 new friend

I made a post "are woman not allowed to play trials?" and got the same kind of responses. *guys want sandwiches *white knights commenting and being attacked (the normal people that are fine playing with girls) *people realizing its a women playing makes me a attention whore. There were some nice replies as well as some stupid ones. That is just the way the community is. I hope she has a clan to stick with. There are some pathetic souls here that will flip when they realize there is a female inbound. Just ignore them, there is a block feature tell her to use it if she has to. No female should ever have to hide her gender, if the group doesnt like it or acts stupid just tell them to grow up and find another. ENJOY THE GAME!!!

Actual conversation, through Xbox Live messaging: Stranger: hi do you want 2 do the refer friend quest Me: Sure just let me finish this bounty Stranger: wait r u a girl Me: No? Stranger: o nvm then
-
I'm not a girl, so I wouldn't know. Just have her simply ignore these players she's encountering. Not that hard.

Idk, destiny is not an mmo so beats me.

Edited by llTokyoMonstall: 12/3/2015 3:12:40 PMThats what you get and honestly if your psn is gamer girl you want attention. You want everyone to know your a girl and since the majority of people who play destiny are guys well you know what you get yourself into. If your a real gamer you avoid posting your gender for attention.

Femfags need not apply Back to tumblr you go Feminism is failing deal with it

Play WoW. Women in endgame content are anything but rare.

Sorry about that man. The thing is, a lot of people that play video games are young and don't have any experience with girls, so they don't know how to properly conduct themselves. The sad thing is, it will probably always be like that.

Girls usually get 2 different reactions from guys One is they get all excited after finding out there's a girl on their team. Second, some guys point out 'oh there's a girl, we gotta baby sit now' as if we are a burden on their team that needs to be carried. There's never really a normal reaction, in my experience anyways.

Girls that play video games play for the attention. I've played MMOs for over 10 years and almost every freaking girl gamer goes out of their way to let every guy know they are female. I played on another WoW realm with a girl toon and girl toon name. I had countless whispers in the first few minutes of playing. To see how far I could take it I Role played a college girl and for weeks my mailbox would be full of gold and gifts. I had to stop when some guy wanted to meet me in real life for sex. Total stalker perv. Anywho....not hating on girls playing games but stop with the little poor me act.
-
I've played with easily over a thousand different people over the last year on destiny and only 2 of them were female lol so I can believe the thirsty would follow one around since it's so rare
-
I don't play video games for "attention"... I play them I like them.

It's the Internet, it happens all the time, get over it

This happens to my mates girlfriend on Halo all the time, just 'cause she has her name in her tag ahaha.

I treat them as I would any other person in my fireteam, and most of them admire that. Happy hunting!

Have a guy name and no one will bother you about your character

I find myself with mixed feelings on the subject. I find myself to have fun gaming with both males and females and yet, it seems like even though females tend to be more laid back and not so hardcore - is on the game I find it more relaxing cuz we can goof around and stuff but lately I've noticed with quite a few female gamers they're either stuck up or don't feel the need to game with me cuz I guess they have something better to do. Mind you, I randomly FR both male and female gamers but it seems like guys check their messages AND actually respond to them or if you send a request for them to join your fireteam they'll either join or send a message. I don't know...I guess I've just ran into mostly bad ones that guy's create stereotypes about then girls flame over it. You gotta love bad apples making everyone in your group look bad XD So to reply to this post, I can't really feel "bad" for males or females if they bring it on themselves unless it's straight up bullying, racism, sexism, or etc.

They should be treated equal after they make me a sandwich and give me he*d

Is this why you need feminism?
