Exotic History: The Million Dollar Man #2
This installment of Exotic History is provided by LordZero
Herod woke up to a loud knocking on his door. He quickly jumped up and opened it. There was no one to be seen. He wrinkled his nose and saw the note on the door. He tore it off and inspected it. "Herod, The Iron Smiths want you for fitting. PS. Too slow to see me." Herod cursed and went back in his room. "She's fast..." He got ready and headed over to the Forge. The clanging sound of steel rang in the hallways as pure heat bellowed from the room as Herod opened the thick wooden door. The Forge was a massive place, capable of having 20 blacksmiths working comfortably at full speed. Two large bellows blew air into the specially designed kilns as the red/white glowing coals heated an assortment of swords, armor, and parts made from the finest plasteel. Herod looked around until a short stocky woman motioned him forward. He was greeted by Lord Jolder, Uncle Jolder as every one of her pupils called her, An Iron Lord and the head Iron Smith. Despite her slighlty old dwarf-ish appearance, she could move very quickly for her age and was extremely deadly with all manor of weapons, forged or not. Her sweaty hand slapped Herod on the back as she pulled a pipe out of her pocket, used the furnace as a match and took a puff. "So here's the newest warrior I have to fix up? Whacha havin in mind?" Her accent was thick and Scottish despite living in the Cosmodrome her entire life, a family trait Herod assumed. Herod blinked. "You mean I get to choose what it looks like?" Jolder looked at him with a blank expression as the smoke she exhaled mixed with the soot and ash of the forgery around her. "To an extent yes, you have to wear it after all." Herod gave a cocky grin. "Well if I get to choose..." "Choose your next words wisely or you will be an integral part of my next project." Jolder was a laid back most of the time, except to the craft of smiting which she took seriously. Herod stopped and thought. "I want it gold and silver plated." "Done." "But I want the metals hammered together." Jolder paused. "Like a composite metal?" "Yes but in a stack one on top of the other, so the actual armor then the silver and or gold plate then overlay it again to polish it up." Jolder puffed her pipe as she considered the challange, loving that her craftsmanship was being tested. "Go on." "The tree should be made of silver and the leaves gold and wolf engraving on the trunk of gold as well." "Don't sound to bad. Anything actually worth smithing?" Herod grinned. "It should give me abilities as well." "The usual more ammo capacity and the like? Boring...." Jolder still had a blank look as she watched Herod. "More like increased Agility." "Easy." "And reload speed." "What is this list? Smithing 101?" "And ability cool down decreased." "Finally..." "When I'm low on health." Jolder looked at Herod with a more surprised expression. "Well... So besides making my job slightly more difficult, you are reckless and bone headed." "I bet you ca..." "Come back tomorra for fitting. You may go now." Jolder turned and went back to grab a piece of armor out of the kiln. Herod paused. "Bet you can't do it by tonight!!" "Then come by later." Jolder gave him a teasing grin exposing a gap from a missing tooth. "I expect 100 glimmer and an apology and a speech on how I am the greatest smith by closing tonight." "I won't have it cause I won't need it!" "Keep telling yourself that bucko." She grabbed a hammer and started pounding away, doing her job at a swift pace. Herod grinned and left, leaving the sweltering heat behind. He wiped the sweat from his brow as he went back to his room. On the way back he managed to bump into someone. "My bad..." "So it was..." Herod paused as he looked at the thin tall man standing before him. He had a very academic personality and snobbish, even for a Warlock. Lord Felwinter raised an eyebrow at Herod. "Are you simply walking to waste time or just to make my day worse?" "No sir." Herod looked at the ground to avoid eye contact. "I simply did not see you." "I'm sure you didn't..." Lord Felwinter sighed in frustration. "Either way, you are in my way boy." He moved Herod out of the way and continued walking. Herod made a face behind the man's back and continued walking. He made it back to his room to find another note on his door. "Herod, Lady Perun wishes to meet the Warriors for practice. PS Missed me again." He grunted and tore the note off. "Yet again." He slowly made his way to the Training Room to start his day off further. Thank you all for tuning in!
