I have ALWAYS hated snipers, for the reasons that foot soldiers have traditionally hated enemy snipers in all wars, ever. Snipers shoot from beyond the range of the standard infantry rifle; they use a weapon that often kills in one shot; and because of the aforementioned range advantage, they are often invulnerable to retaliation. It is considered a cowardly weapon. (This applies to enemy snipers only, of course- if they're on your side, they're heroes, right?) At the same time, snipers themselves tend to look at the enemy not as a fellow soldier who is merely on the wrong side of the line, and therefore entitled to honor as a combatant, but merely as a "target". The range at which they engage depersonalizes and dehumanizes the enemy. This isn't to say there's not a skill to doing it- there definitely is. But the "depersonalizing" works both ways, and foot infantry will go out of their way to kill a sniper if they can. And dance on the corpse. Over and over, in the case of a video game.
