98% won't solve it because only 2% are ignorant enough to make assumptions to fill in the gaps. The clues do not mention a fish, so we can only assume someone owns a fish. It's entirely possible the fifth pet is a snake or dinosaur and nobody owns a fish. Likewise, only 4 beverages are mentioned. There is also an erroneous numbering system included in the clues, with no key on how the numbering system works. With the information provided, the result of this riddle is inconclusive and solvable only using the level of vigilance and intelligence that gave us asbestos housing and the E.T game for Atari. Edit : here's my answer - nobody. Fish is not mentioned in the clues as a pet, therefore nobody owns a fish. Edit 2: omg people are so stupid! Wake up. Einstein was a scientist. Scientists don't just make stuff up to fill in the gaps to suit their theories - well, good ones don't anyway. There is information missing, meaning you can only develop a theory on who owns the fish, supported by the facts. The truth is, there is not only a single answer, there's two - "German" and "nobody". The reason only 2% get it right is because 98% of people will go with"German" having faith their assumptions will support their theory. Going with"German"is like accepting evolution theories blindly. Sure it makes sense and sounds good, but there are gaps in the evidence chain that are required to be filled to make it 100% indisputable (there are no solid documented proofs of evolution actually taking place - only before and after shots with assumptions filling in the gaps).
