Refer-A-Friend: Pay Gate
I have played WoW and Destiny since Vanilla in both. And WoW has RAF. So why is it acceptable in one and not the other?

The reason RAF works in WoW and not Destiny is because the extra mount in WoW was just that--EXTRA. If I never did the RAF, I could still roll for a still rarer mount in a raid, or farm a rare like TLPD or Aeonaxx. In other words, there is so much sheer content in WoW that one mount is literally lost among [i]hundreds[/i], and the in-game stuff comes with more prestige (and is cooler) than the RAF rewards, so only the mount enthusiasts have to care about recruiting.
Destiny does not have enough content to justify RAF. Essentially, someone [i]must[/i] spend $40 dollars so you can get the best looking sparrow in the game. The problem with this is that in Destiny is that there are SO FEW epic sparrows (if you weren't given the two apology sparrows in YR1) that this new and very cool sparrow is instantly desirable to every player. And there are [i]so few[/i] swords that not having access to these new ones is an insult. The emblem, dances, and shader most people could care less about. Epic sparrows have greater speed. Swords are a unique, fan-favorite weapon. Not cosmetic items.
So with this new gear, it's not just one item out of hundreds being denied to the players--it's one thing out of [i]tens[/i]. Maybe. It's [i]three of nine[/i] with swords. [i]One third[/i]. Which means that, AGAIN, the veteran player base is being cut off from content we want, and frankly deserve, unless we find MORE people, or pay for another account.
And it is the veteran player base who has been recruiting friends for you all along that is being once again screwed. We have been recruiting for a year. I have brought three guardians into the game myself.
This is simple stuff, Bungie. Do you even care?
Hire me. I can fix this game/do better promotions in my SLEEP.

It is stupid, the refer a friend thing. after all the money they have already from the vet fan base they want more. They want your friends blood to. I should have been given medals for the completion of all your content, nothing. Now you want me bring some new money in and they get better rewards then my vet brothers and sisters. I say thee neigh. Enlisted gets bonuses Vets get dick. Way to go... Im helping noobs get swords, spindles, raid runs, teaching the newer players stats to look for on armor and guns, basically done the job of a fu@king instruction manual and nothing. Im not suggesting my friends play destiny Not until they support the vets. Dick heads!

1 ReplyTbh, the shader is all I care about. I have the VoG sparrow, so that has boost. And it's not like we have racing, so who cares. It's not like we're traveling such great distances (because the patrol area isn't that large) that having a boosted sparrow saves you what? 5-10 seconds depending on travel length? The sword. That's cosmetic too. They don't do anything different or better than the other legendary swords and you're assuming these can be upgraded to exotic, I doubt it, but possible. In the end, the quality of the rewards are solely based on the personal opinion of the individual. I would have liked the shader, but I can also live without it

5 RepliesI played wow from the start, became a massive time sync more than every other game, became a content designer for it and didn't play it, would have referred friends as I liked it, was worth it. I wouldn't pass on destiny to a friend, doing so is like passing on a sexually transmitted disease.

It's a good point. And essentially what makes all the decisions Bungie makes questionable. There is just not enough content to be treating this game like a WoW style MMO. Removing old content (strikes) and making some content irrelevant (raids and prison), is perfectly fine in WoW because there is plenty of new content. But it's not perfectly fine here. And to your point, there aren't enough alternatives to the RAF rewards to make sure people don't get upset. Personally, I could care less about the RAF rewards. But you certainly have a good point. If this game was flooded with content like WoW, I somehow doubt we'd be seeing all this backlash.

I personally think this is more to bring older players up to newer consoles. Destiny has been held back for ages by 360 or PS3 players, so by moving a ton of them up now, and giving them special stuff, maybe they'll just cut off the old consoles and make Destiny the best it can be with the new ones... just a thought

For your first 3 days here, you must come up with ideas that can futher this game. (Bug fixes, weapons, End-Game content, multiplayer, advertising, etc) You will present these ideas on Friday. If we think you show exemplary promise, we will pair you up with 5 other people of your choosing. From that point on, you will test out your ideas in the game and present your simulations to the game designers with your other colleagues. If they think the ideas show excellency and promise, they themselves will improve and show you what they changed. You then will tell them anything you want to change to the ideas. Pay Wages: $30 per hour, 4 days a week. From 10 am to 7pm.

While reading the weekly update, I noticed the requirement that the referee buy The Taken King with his or her Xbox Live or PSN account. The purchase requirement makes the referral program about 2 months too late.

The biggest problem I see is this scheme came more than 2 months after the release of TTK in the midst of the launch of several competitors. There is nothing new on the Destiny horizon to point to and most hardcore players are growing increasingly frustrated with this double RNG system introduced in TTK. The time for a RAF program was in the run-up to TTK, when there was a major new release a tons of content, and a lot of hype to encourage them to jump on. If they didn't jump aboard then, they certainly won't now. RAF is worthless until Destiny 2 drops.
