In need of advice, music people.

For all you awesome destiny players out there, I need advice. I play guitar in my Jazz Band at school and our first performance is this Friday, (note I'm a junior, I've played guitar for awhile and Clarinet for 7 years) and like. I am so nervous. I'm scared I'm going to mess up and I have several parts where it's just me playing, any tips?

  • Focus on your instrument. Play just like you would play when no ones around. Good luck man!

  • Dude, I've been playing jazz guitar for a very long time. One thing I can say is that IF you do screw up just riff on the mistake and make your way back into the groove. Seriously man, it's jazz. Just improv for a bar or two and then hop back in. As long as you stay in key the screw ups don't matter......unless you are a studio musician in that case you will have a chair thrown at your head if you aren't on point for ever note and tempo change lol. But seriously dude I've played some pretty big shows and trust me, no one in the audience is going to hear you hit a sharp or flat note that's out of line as long as you own that -blam!- up and riff off of it.

    • For the most part people won't be aware of your performance. If you happen to mess up a bit nobody will notice. Even the most astute listeners may think it's a part of the performance so don't sweat it. 1. Breathe 2. Remember the audience is your friend. 3. Practice positive self talk 4. Remember/practice the most important parts of your bit. Good luck!

    • Regardless; play it off if anything goes wrong. Act as if it's alllll part of the plan. No matter what.

    • Dnt look directly at anyone. Focus your eyes on spaces between ppl when not playing. Focus on the instrument while playing. Ive played in front of a packed audience multiple times. Still have stage fright

Strech your ballsacks so they appear larger and more droopy. This will give you the placebo that you grew a pair.

    • I always feel like getting nervous early is better. Time to let the feeling that you will do good sink in. The worst is if you get nervous right before playing. But relax, drink some water. Grab a quick snack and warm up. Good luck buddy

    • Look past the audience. Think about the music. If you focus on the music, you'll forget everyone else is there.

    • To be good at something you need to think your the best. Confidence goes a long way, practice till you can do your part without thinking, then you can just go out there relaxed and have fun. Good luck.

    • Concert performances sound bad but they're really a lot of fun. Don't think of it as "a show so don't mess up" think of it as you jamming with you and the other 20-60 kids you're with every day. When I was in band there was always a piece everyone was excited to perform because it was fun. And that's when we did the best. The one where we had fun

    • Just remember that playing music is fun and have fun. Don't worry about messing up, don't worry about the audience, just play. Besides, if it's Jazz nobody will notice if you mess up anyway.

    • Practice a lot until you feel confident, take deep breaths before you perform and know hat you'll do great. That's how I do it whenever we do concerts in our school :)

    • Play it like you're playing it at home. Absolutely, absolutely do not stare downwards the whole time. Also, remember, everyone there in the audience barely knows what a Measure is, so don't be too worried, if they have you playing it, that means they trust you. Last piece of advice? Don't go to school for your guitar. Use your ears and your mind. So many people end up sounding the exact same and it gets depressing.

        • Just play and have fun. Enjoy the moment. The only way anyone will know if u mess up is if u stop completely. So no matter what just smile and keep playing. That's my best advice.

            • Just make sure you practice a lot before so that you know that you have the peace nailed. If you can practice it perfectly than you can perform it perfectly

            • Take some klonapin. Go to the drug store and ask the pharmacist. They will surely hand some over.
