A review of Destiny from a Vanilla player

Posted this review on amazon and decided to post it here(link is included). It really may sound like I strongly dislike destiny but believe me thats not it. Ive had great times on this game and have made some great friends Id have never met irl; bonding over life, rages and triumphs. Some whom ive exchanged info with and will continue gaming with as a fireteam. I'll still stop by every now and again to dust off my vault and see whats new. Maybe something will come along that really will make it worth while. maybe someday. The Review: I've been playing Destiny since day1 and its been a difficult journey. Vanilla Destiny was a joke, the game itself felt like an oversized demo and in many ways it really was just a beta you paid for. But like most of the Destiny fan base I hoped and stayed loyal through those months or repetition and bare-bones content eagerly waiting for The Dark Below. The Dark Below: when it dropped, once again it was nothing but disappointment. a few missions and a broken raid with so many bugs, it was no wonder people preferred to cheese the whole thing then take the time and trouble of working with the broken mechanics. By the time they fixed MOST of the kinks the raid had been so cheesed everyone had raid gear and max level without the help of a 6man raid team. when hardmode came out you could still cheese it. To this day Crotas End (the raid) is still a raid you can one man. (Always felt it was a good way to practice your clutching skills) House Of Wolves: The dark below came and died down quickly, then destiny fans turned their eye towards a new horizon, The House Of Wolves. This new DLC promised real end game content, something you can look forward to grinding and experience with friends. It was suppose to answer the call for PvP and PvE players. Prison of elders a 3person fireteam experience where you fight hoards of enemies for incredible loot from the queens reserve and a 3v3 elimination style multiplayer experience where only the most prestigious players would come out victorious. Prison of elders flopped, again a joke. within the first week of casual play you finished 80-90% of what this so called end game content had to offer. by the 2nd or 3rd week it was done with nothing left to work for. If you where a super casual player you may have had more left to do but the repetition was so dull you might have just given up all together. the prize was etheric light, an item capable of upgrading your old gear from The Dark Below and Vanilla to this DLCs new attack value, (being 365; I think) which you obtained for completing the more difficult tiers in Prion Of Elders. Now for the The Trials Of Osiris, a 3v3 elimination mode for competitive multiplayer where level advantages where enabled meaning depending what level you where and what level your armor and weapons where it determined your damage output and defense capability. But heres the thing, Destinys multiplayer is interesting, If you've never played it then let me start off by saying something that some veteran players may or may not agree on. Destinys multiplayer is unbalanced, still to this day, though during the time that this DLC was released it was EXTREMELY unbalanced; you could consider 2.0 (most recent patch) beautiful compared to this. you only every saw 1 or 2 set ups and they where all the same. long rant short. One type of weapon (hand cannon) was capable of shooting at a snipers distance, with just about the same amount of accuracy if not better in the right hands, with close to the same lethality and with a fast rate of fire. there was no point in using anything else and if you were less than a decent player at PvP and without one of these godly guns you were never going to claim ultimate victory in this game type. Not only that, but people took matters into their own hands and started abusing the network. DDOSing people off the matches for easy wins. Yes this really isn't bungies fault you can't stop people from doing this right then and their. But the thing is this kept happening and still (in a way) does only instead of kicking people off they just lag themselves enough to where you cant hit them. When I say "in a way" I mean you can get in a match where the enemy team has a poor connection and it could just be because they have poor internet, not necessarily because of malicious reasons. Now this doesn't happen nearly as much as it did. But the thing is bungie doesnt hardban or prevent nearly enough of people that did it(and do it). leaving them to come right back and do it again. So nothing ever changes. The Taken King: AT THIS POINT EVERYTHING PRIOR TO THIS DLC IS NOW- UNLESS. DONE. NO POINT TO IT. THIS NEW DLC INTRODUCED NEW EVERYTHING SO, YEAH. (moving on.) Even after all this frustration and ridicules failures. there was a glimpse of hope, Bungie heard our cries and answered. A new 2.0 patch helping with all the previous problems. Better matchmaking and a way to keep people with bad connection out of the crucible so they wouldn't abuse the connection in their favor. an entirely new and revamped interface to level up and work with gear we actually want to wear. New sub classes. A new storyline and promises of a more impressive destiny experience. When the game finally dropped we were so amazing by the new bells and whistles we didn't see the underlining truth. but after a couple weeks it became clear, and we soon realized we were all fooled again. The Taken king was suppose to be this new experience but all it really was underneath it all was what it always had been. Promises of greatness veiled over timed releases, rushed excuses, and 100 ways to make you waste your time so that they can make their game last longer. The only real compliment I can give bungie is that at least they learned from villain destiny and found a few ways to make players have to wait longer on getting the rewards and gear they want. You want that exotic weapon? we'll you're ganna have to grind for it, do some random mission and pray you have friends to help you, pay a lot of glimmer, pray to RNJesus, wait for weekly resets, and wander around a new area for hours and hours and look for tiny shards. There were so many things we were promised that just never happened. To mention a few we were promised better loot mechanics. you wouldn't get the same item in a raid every time, that was total BS. Nightfalls were going to render better rewards, that was BS(nightfalls are suppose to be a difficult weekly mission you attempt with a fireteam of 3 and the rewards were suppose to be worthy of the stress). Secret exotic weapons that really where only timed released items. Giving you the option to change your emote but making you pay for them (yes bungie gave players enough silver to buy 2 emotes) but some of the emotes cost $5. FIVE DOLLARS FOR AN IN GAME EMOTE!! Not only was that lazy but, wtf?! Do you know how much better it would have been to have challenges or secret mission available to unlock them instead. But here we are, I now have an emote so I can express myself and everyone knows I spend $5 on this emote, instead of something like everyone knowing I went 2 trials matches without dying. The game is a sham. The game is a disappointment. I played and played and played and the only reason im being so hard on it is because I stayed loyal for so long trying to look at the bight side, but unless you're blind to the truth and really don’t want to or can't think critically then it be hard to see the obvious absurdity this game is. A joke. A slap to the face to all its fans. Maybe this game can turn around and be something more, honestly I still think it can, but not by the people running it now. So if you're new to destiny I still would say give it a try, but be warned. These people have no respect for the gamers playing it and I doubt they ever will. Goodluck. *NOTE: I understand that alot of things aren't BUNGIES doing but I blame them for bending under Activision's horrible tactics.

      • THIS IS BEAUTIFUL. I quit this game for tha exact same reasons. Nightfall loot was a vanguard ghost 3 times in 1 week. Tell me tha odds of that happening... Every week in trials I go flawless. Hand cannons every time. Even in my gold tier packages. My whole raid team is 315+ and I'm at 311 because I can't get anything from HM passed 310. This game is just a waste of money, saying its gonna be around for 10 years? Lol 2nd years here and you're losing year one players left and right. I won't ever get excited for another expansion because it'll only be 2 weeks worth of game play. Unless bungie makes everything on a time lock like tha sleeper. Lol I'm glad someone did this before I did cause I woulda used -blam!- like 1000x
