I've been waiting for this particular episode to come up for a few months & it's not what I expected.
Apparently scattered in our lore, there are indications that our traveler had ulterior motives for coming into our system that we've never dared to wonder about.
Are we simply dead things given a purpose that is only to make other things dead? In the Paradox mission's secret ending, praedyth tells us the vex have seen their future & in it they get destroyed. Are we the ones who end up killing them? Aren't the vex simply there to alter time as they see fit?
I don't know much about lore but I'm going to start exploring it much more so feel free to comment & share what you know.
Edit: I have read the book of sorrows but it simply doesn't fill in all the gaps & consequently doesn't "kill" this theory.
According to the book, Crota was sent to our system after the Traveler so if you choose to believe the book is the explanation everything then why are the hive not in any place of power on earth? If no considerable figure of power for the hive was on earth then the hive had nothing to do with the Traveler's current state.
At least some if not most of the grimroire was created for the initial story of destiny which is very different from the one the game actually shipped with so some of it just won't coincide with the current story.

The video caused me physical pain while watching it

Traveler = evil = bungie being a lazy ass whore

Edited by aceebro: 10/21/2015 2:50:32 PMAbsolutely disgusting. Book of sorrows kill this theory. The fallen aren't looking for revenge on the Traveler, they're trying to regain its favor. The "Legends" card is about the exo, not guardians as a whole. The Vex weren't "peacefully praying"; they were using the heart to hurt the Traveler.
-
But hey, that's just a theory, a game theory! Thanks for watching!
i love that channel-I like a little science with my video games
I saw someone post information regarding the vex grimoire. its speculation, but his theory that the vex created the darkness works. Check out Myelin Games on YouTube.

Jumping on a crashed bandwagon are we?
-
Dispute what you claim you could not have possibly read all the grimour cards on this subject. If you had you would know that matpat's "gametheory" just doesn't hold water. Most of this is just a video rehashing a discredited reddit post about the supposed development story before Bungie changed it a year before release.

I've pretty much bought into this whole thing. The one thing that was different about our planet and the traveler didn't count on was Rasputin. Which is weird because the traveler was responsible for advancing our technology so one would think it probably wouldn't wanna help us create something that could -blam!- up it's plans. I believe this thing goes from system to system building up civilizations, lulling them into a false sense of security, and posing as the yin to the darkness' yang when in reality it is just an agent of the darkness who's sole purpose is to feed that darkness by creating life where there is none and advancing life where it does exist, just to have the darkness absorb it and grow stronger. When Rasputin tried to destroy it, it's Last option was to create ghosts and probably the "speaker" as well to feed everyone a story of being chosen from the dead and giving them this grand purpose in life which is only to help repair the traveler and who knows what will happen when it's finally ready. But I definitely don't trust the speaker.. Granted I don't know much about him. What race he is, was he around during the golden age and the collapse? I'll have to look more into the grimoir. Its just such an intriguing story cuz it can go so Many different ways. Maybe everything that's happening now never happened, the traveler came and went, -blam!-ing up our planet and a group of survivors (maybe the awoken) eventually built the vex and time travel to go back to the golden age and make sure Rasputin gets built at all costs. If let's say it was the awoken, maybe they realize that in the end it might not matter what we do so that's why they stay in the reef and are wary of guardians. The awoken were born during the collapse and maybe they're the only true earth beings left, the guardians are just the travelers response to Rasputin and really are old humans revived from the dead. Also, maybe thats why Mara sov was you know like "cool" with the fallen for a time, because they had something in common (getting screwed by the traveler)? I don't know I'm just rambling things off the top of my head now so I'm sure there were things I said that can be totally debunked and what not but oh well.. Just having fun. Basically I think yes the traveler and speaker are bad, and the vex were created by "humanity" to try and help right the wrong that the traveler caused. Fallen are like us but are too dumb to realize that the great machine is bad news and there's nothing they can do to win back it's favor (or maybe they were tricked into thinking that they could and the whirlwind was just because of something they did wrong). The hive are just pure evil\darkness (there's plenty about them in the books of sorrow). And the cabal I honestly think are just explorers, probably intrigued by the travelers capabilities. I also believe that even though we were created by evil, there is still hope for us when the shit hits the fan. That's why the stranger was cool with us but had absolutely no reguard for our ghost and why Mara sov is okay with us. I don't know I'm gonna stop talking now lol. Thanks anyone that stuck around to read all this, feel free to give me your thoughts.

Matpat has been half-assing his theories ever since he started live-streams :/ Lots of that info is out of date and inaccurate. On a related note, we actually save the Vex, on Paradox.
-
SSSSOOOOO OLD NEWS We have been speculating this for over a year
-
I'm look at the Traveler the same as I always have because I actually read the grimoire cards and the books of Sorrow. This Theory is invalid and seriously outdated.

Dobbins' first destiny video anyone?

Disproven months ago.

It never ceases to amaze me just how little attention people pa You seriously think we're the ones who kill the Vex? Did you really just type those words?
-
The vex predicting/knowing their doom was regarding the Taken's presence in the VoG. One of Praedyth's last lines in the alternate ending says something along the lines of, "The vex has seen their end, but of course that won't happen now. You're here." The above suggests we changed that "vex ending reality" by defeating the Taken.
-
The problem with grimore is that it could be biased. All we know about anything is what the ghosts or some one in power in the tower tells us...so how do we know it's true?

Bump for later

Edited by TheSpaceGeneral: 10/21/2015 3:47:07 PMGet this weak shit outta here.

In the (true ending) for paradox praedyth also says that just because we exist the vex exist because of that ending
-
Most of this is discredited by the books of sorrow. All the discrepancies listed within the video are discussed within those books.
-
A lot of this is disproved by Rasputin and book of sorrows. His info is very out of date. Other than that; some of his points are correct. Guardians are not good not evil. In the overlook of the the basic knowledge of the universe, there is not good or evil only action. Each side would justify their own and make the other wrong.

Have you read the Book of Sorrow?

Bumped for latrr

I'm not a fan of this particular matpat video. If you really wanna look into lore check on anonpig on the forums
